Softimage Shader Presets

Max shader presetsAuthor: Maximus
Maximus presents his expanding collection of shader presets. The .xsiaddon contains a toolbar with thumbnail previews (See this image), a custom layout (having that toobar integrated), and Material presets for the Material Manager. Note that for some of the shaders to work, the Enhance XSI Shader collection and/or Daniel Rind's Diffraction shader are required (for both see below). Current version requires installation in USER directory (drag'n'drop does that) for the toolbar to work. For more details and updates see the si-community discussion thread.

Softimage Shader Presets

Post by Maximus » 17 Jul 2011, 21:02

Well here we go, i hope everything worked pretty smooth.
Thanks to Rob and everyone for tips and help on making this, there are around 130 presets so far, those arent really new but i will keep updating it, also if you have some shaders and want to share feel free to PM me or mail me.

http://uploading.com/files/5md5ce42/Max_Shaders.rar/

local si-community download: here

Contents:

- The Toolbar with presets: View->toolbars->Max Shaders

- A Layout for Softimage: View->Layouts->Max Shading

- Material Presets for Material Manager: Open Material Manager (Ctrl+7) go to Libraries-> Import Material Library, and browse to the folder "C:\Users\Yourname\Autodesk\Softimage_2012_SP1\Addons\Max Shaders\Data\DSPresets\Shaders\Matlib" and load whatever library you want.

Here is a little preview of the content:

http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/5802/65364839.jpg

Also, keep in mind some shaders use the following:

- Enhanche XSI Shaders ( http://www.shaders.co.uk/enhance_xsi/ )
- Daniel Rind Diffraction http://animus.brinkster.net/logo.html and http://www.rray.de/xsi/

Library is packed as addon with Softimage 2012 SP1, i'm sorry but as you might have seen i'm a bit burn out to work with presets in Softimage, so feel free to convert them and do whatever you like.

They are totally free and up to you to use, most of them are pretty basic and you can build materials on top of them, there isnt any advanced or hard stuff going on.

I hope you enjoy them, especially for beginners, and let me know.

Cheers, Max

p.s.(i'm sorry i didnt have enough patience to give out more shaders, but they'll come if people are interested).

oh i forgot to add, some shaders are not made by myself, but i've collected during time, so credits go to them for creating the shaders, i dont remember all of them but for example Coke Glass isnt mine, i dont remmeber where i got it.
If any creator wants me to remove them or something, free to mail me at radius.radius@libero.it
And sorry for the inconvenience.

As you prefer, i dont mind, also lets see if everything works, path should be fine,
the only thing is that due to presets being buttons, there is an annoyin flickering caused by the interface on mouse over on presets but
i kinda gave up on finding a more elegant solution with presets in softimage, if there is any, thats why i've included the Material Manager presets library:)

Just tried it and I'm having issues. Preset buttons return errors and loading matlibs just adds an empty matlib- - could it be its because I added to the workgroup instead of User location? I'll try later.

Loading the presets manually (browsing for them) works.

I'm on 2012 SP1 and drag and dropping it did the trick. Works as expected now.

Just got an answer from owei:
in this case the filesize shouldn't pose a problem.
So we host/mirror/whatever the file now... :ymparty:
Get it here

I've updated the first post too... ;)

I dont know about workgroup, i didnt use that, probably the path is different and i have no idea how to implement it.
Scrolling materials have an annoying flickering wich makes preview icons disappear for some reason, cant do much i guess its something about Softimage, nothing can be done unless you want the small apple icons preview.

Ramon wrote:Why not work with my workgroup?

The problem is that toolbars need paths where they can find their presets (& bitmaps). For addons installed in the user location the beginning of such a path can be found by using the environment variable "XSI_USERHOME", followed by the "hardcoded path" that gets you from the "XSI_USERHOME" to the actual files. As "XSI_USERHOME" gets adapted to each user's "user path", it's ideally suited for such an install. The second part (the "hardcoded path") stays the same regardless...
Workgroups however haven't got (that I know of) an easily accessible path like that, that would work for each and every install for each and every user (and each and every possible workgroup). Something you could code beforehand into the toolbar-file.

The easiest way to get this to work in a workgroup would be replacing all the "$XSI_USERHOME" strings in the toolbarfile with the ending ".xsitb" in a text editor by the string of the actual path to the workgroup you've installed it in...
