GoSoftimageLite - Zbrush-Softimage exchange [UPDATE!!!!]

Post by j3st3r » 09 Aug 2010, 20:22

Hey, I just wrote a small addon to solve temporarily the exchange between XSI and ZBrush. Look at here:

http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showpost.p ... ostcount=1

I have updated the tool, added functionality to preserve groups between Softimage and ZBrush

download it from here

@j3st3r - Would you like me to place this tool on "our" si-community server?

Edit: I removed my moderator edit for better readability of your original post.
I assume you got the message... :D

A small wish: Make export from xsi to Zbrush a few mesh as sub tools , just as from Zbrush to xsi. (all selected meshes XSI in separate subtools ZBrush)

Hirazi, should I upload it to the Plugins section?

To the subtool subject, I'm considering this, but being a Lite version, and my limited knowledge with ZBrush scripting it's not obvious to me how can I resolve the issue, but I'll start working on it, maybe I can do.

[Update]

I added few things:

Installation

Drag and drop the addon onto Viewport of Softimage

In the addon folder, you will find a ZSC folder. The content of this must be copied into your Zbrush\ZStartup\Zplugs folder (the GoSoftLiteData folder too)

In Softimage you have to set your preferences|GoSoftLiteSetting|Zbrush folder to your Zbrush root folder (where the ZBrush.Exe is)

Download it from here

I've just moved the thread to the download (plugins) section and placed the new file on our server.
I added a date to the file name to keep things organized. ;)

(If there's an update: send the file to the upload mail adress
and send me a PM as a reminder to check that mailbox. I'm getting lazy... :D )

A little problem about... first time all work well, but to day I try and receve from XSI this message: "GoSoftlite file don't exist!" and if a try export this other one "Can't create output file"
I controlled all folder and are all ok, what is? Zbrush, export correctly (I find the file in the correct folder) but XSI no

If you don't mind tomorrow I'll check the issue. Now we are crunching, and I'm not sure if I can finish it.

Actually GoZ and GoSoftimageLite is not for heavy meshes...I used to transfer at most 10-20k polygons, with no issue. You need to check the following stuffs:

a) In your ZBrush/ZStartup/ZPlugs folder there must be a GoSoftLiteData folder

b) In your Softimage File|Preferences|Custom there must be a GoSoftLitSetting pointing to your Zbrush root folder

If the above mentioned things are OK, GoSoftLite should work.

Now I try to solve multiple subtool exporting on the lowest level, it may take a while...

a) ok
b) ok
don't work...
It is all correct (folder and all setting), but when I try to import mesh from zbrush I receive the message "GoSoftLite file don't exist!", and when try to export, compare a red message "can't create output file"
If I go in gosoftlitedata folder, I find the correct obj file created by zbrush (and can import in softimage)
It is strange it worked correctly and, after a crash with heavy mesh it don't work...
Folder path is:
c:\Program File (x86)\Pixologic\Zbrush 4.0\ZStartup\ZPlugs\GoSoftLiteData This is the correct folder, and this is the folder I wrote in Softimage|preference|Custom|GosoftliteSettings
In this folder Zbrush create the correct GosoftLite.OBJ (and .mtl) file

Very strange, have you tried. So the problem is in Softimage exclusively? What about uninstalling and reinstalling the addon with NOT drag and drop, but using the Install addon from the file addon menu? You may also try to delete the OBJs from the GoSoftLiteData folder.

Soon I finish the next version, and I'll upload it.
