Where can i download old Soft|3D plugins?

Post by RetroModeler64 » 13 Jun 2019, 00:11

Hi, I'm new to the community of SI-comunity and I would like to know if there is any possibility to know if plugins for Soft 3D can be downloaded in some website, I use Softimage 3D for Low-Poly modeling and Softimage XSI for Mid-Poly modeling, I would like to know if there is any modeling plugin like PhoenixTools, regards.

I think you will be out of luck for many of those Soft3D plugins but put a post on the Softimage Mailing List as well as many of the users of Softimage 3D are still active there.

Sometime a quick search may pay off. Check this thread on Softimage Blog from one of the author of the Phoenix tool. http://www.softimageblog.com/archives/504

Check also Ed Harriss website: https://www.edharriss.com/

You can do low poly modeling in XSI as well btw. Good Luck

I think I have a DVD of metamesh somewhere, but it might be irix only, and these old plugins are generally unusable due to licensing or platform incompatibilities.

I have the IRIX operating system, I would like to know if it is possible to obtain the Plugins or it is impossible :( .

Thank you very much, I will try to install these Plugins, I model Softimage 3D in Low Poly for fun and also give the software a chance Besides, if I want to export my 3D models to Classic consoles like PSX, N64 or Sega Saturn, it does not help ME XSI because I have the export plugins in my SI3D and this helps me to understand more about the optimization of polygons for my personal projects, but all ways thank you very much.

ok but what plugin are you looking for? Phoenix Tools mostly made rendering, simulation and particle plugins.
They made one sub d plugin for Si3D, Metamesh Extreme. It's not useful to you because you have subd already in XSI, and you could export that back into SI3D with .obj.
A few phoenix things like the softbody and the particles are in XSI - and are not related to modeling,

The Konshus tools come to mind as modeling tools.
There was one that deformed geo with a curve, and another one that was - I think - some kind of proportional modeling tool.

As far as I can recall, most plugins added to the shading and rendering functionality of SI|3D.

I can understand the 'trip to memory lane' usage of Soft, but aren't you better off with some more modern application? The latest version of SI|3D came out around 2000, so you're asking for almost 20 year old software ;)
Blender for instance will do all the modeling you want and it's free, if that is an issue.

I might have some Soft|3D related things still stored on backup somewhere, but I don't think it will do you much good due to the Windows platform and licensing issues that will arise. e.g. Most of the licensing platform stopped working around WinXP.
