Re: Sun position plugin

Post by redmotion » 09 Jan 2013, 14:55

Hi, I own 2010 and never upgraded so I was trying to use the "unofficial" kinematics part of that version to rotate the null like the plugin did.

BUT I just couldn't get it to work. It seemed like I needed too many decimal places and ICE didn't seem to go to that degree. I could upload it (if I can find it) and you could see if you can make it work, but I've pretty much given up using SI for Archviz. I use Sketchup and Octane now.

A quick preview.
Changes to make are a matrix output and some fixed input locations...

Amazing!
Could you explain a little bit about coding the SunPositionCore Node?

Which detail on coding, the ICE-stuff itself or the sun algorithm for the position calculation?

In the SDK are many examples where you can learn a lot.
Here the next try...

Ok, here is the ICE version for Softimage 2011- Windows x64.
It looks a little bit different from the videos above, the result is the same.
How it works and how you can use it, is shown in the video below.

Hope you have fun with it ;)

Thanks, Face, for the great addon!
I'm too stupid to figure the basic setup, though. Could you please demonstrate the necessary steps?

Create a pointcloud, add a simulated ICE tree, add the "sun position frame" node, ok.
Now what? Do I need to add a point first? Nothing's happening when I move the time slider.

Thanks and best regards,
Eugen

Ok, here is a simple test scene which shows how to drive the position of a point light, with the calculated sun position from the plugin.
