User OBJ LibraryAuthor: Reinhard Claus
A menu builder for a library of .obj files. As the first step, you'll have to create a folder named »ObjLib« under (UserFolder)/Data. When installed, creates a menu in Get>Primitive. Folder structure in the ObjLib will be recreated as the menu structure in Get->Primitive->User Object Library. Works for wavefront obj file format only — (Update) new version also scans all existing workgroups for Data/ObjLib submenus.

As the first step, you'll have to create a folder named "ObjLib" under (UserFolder)/Data

When installed, creates a menu in Get>Primitive

Folder structure in the ObjLib will be recreated as the menu structure in Get->Primitive->User Object Library

Works for wavefront obj file format only

This is fantastic!

Now I can have a bunch of pre UV'd primitives at the ready.

I would like to put the Objlib in a workgroup so I can have a library everyone can use. Anyway to do that?

Thanks for your feedback :-!
bblevins, that was a good idea.
New version now scans all connected workgroups, and puts everything found under Data/ObjLib in these into the menu as well.
Above link is updated.

Thanks for implementing the Workgroup option. Sadly, I get an error when I run it...

Code: Select all

// ERROR : Cannot open C:\users\bblevins\Autodesk\Softimage_2011_Subscription_Advantage_Pack\Data\ObjLib\UVSphere.obj
// ERROR : 2028-ObjImport - Invalid argument specified.
ObjImport("C:\\users\\bblevins\\Autodesk\\Softimage_2011_Subscription_Advantage_Pack\\Data\\ObjLib\\UVSphere.obj", 1, 0, true, true, false, true);
// ERROR : Invalid procedure call or argument - [line 53 in \\Wild.canary.media\tech\WC_workgroup\Addons\BuildUserObjLib\Application\Plugins\BuildUserObjLib.js]

Thanks for the report, it seems it scans from the workgroup folder but still tries to import from the user folder. Fix coming.

First post has been updated with a new version - this one I've actually tested for more than 15 seconds :ymblushing:.

Had to go the way of a global JS "map", since menu entries don't allow the storage of userdata. Am open to more elegant suggestions.

I couldn't find a way to select them because the importer doesn't return the imported objects to the script. But I have my own importer maybe I can adapt it. I'll come back here in case
