Need a soft Image master

Post by revoemag » 15 Sep 2017, 19:19

I have a soft image movie from 1999, obviously in an older version of soft image. I need someone who can open these files and render the movie with some small changes.

Use the old version, import to a new version, I don't care as long as you can make it work.

You tell me the cost.

With a Softimage movie you mean a Softimage 3D project/scene right?
If so, I don't think many of us have that still running somewhere.

There was a time when earlier versions of Softimage XSI were able to open up the old format and convert it, but it was removed after the 3rd? version or so.

Might be a though one......

edit: I just remembered I have some old virtual pc's on disk, maybe there's something on there.

Any 32-bit version of XSI can load Softimage 3D scenes. I don't remember which one was the last, maybe XSI 7.
I don't think you'll find any Softimage 3D users in here, but there are a few that still have it up and running on the softimage mailing list.
Still, it's better if you have a copy of XSI and someone can just covert the data for you, because "some small changes" sounds a bit ominous.

HI Luc-Eric,

Yes, v7 is the last version, you're right. And if I recall correctly, part of SI|3D was embedded in XSI just for being able to import the scene files?

There has already been some back and forth emails about the request made, and it will be interesting to see how much is retrievable.

Now where did I left that "Phoenix Tools CD".. ;-)

I still have XSI 7 running here (due to lack of a license for a newer version), although only the 64bit version. Not sure if 32bit could be installed along with it, if I still find the installer somewhere.

I know this is an old thread, but was this ever resolved?

If not, I can do the conversion. I wrote a plugin to export from Softimage|3D and a plugin import into XSI to convert my old data. It works reasonably well and can import directly into Softimage 2014 and 2015.

My translator can't support everything because the Softimage|3D SDK did not have full access to the scene, but I did improve upon many shortcomings of XSI's SI3D scene importer.

Cost is case specific. Largely depends on how much work is involved.
