Yes, Le Gouffre is simply brilliant. I have been watching them in CGSociety's IP Club for some time now; it is great to see the final piece - amazing!

These guys were just on the Radio-Canada evening news. No specific mentions of Softimage, just a silent screenshot of our preciousMauricioPC wrote:Le Gouffre is finally online. Beautiful short I had the chance of seeing last year at AnimaMundi SP. Also a nice making-of of the process.

The project was to create a thrilling brand package for the ICC World Cup 2015. Designed and Directed at UFO by french director Sebastien Canonne, it was commissioned by Star India’s Star Sports Network. Match graphics and branding conception by Movement.
Launched end of December 2014, the development of the 3D simulations where created in an intense 5 weeks at Mathematic using XSI, Softimage.
The visuals and opening sequence have been watched by over 1,1 Billion viewers across the globe on 46 Broadcast Networks in over 100 Countries.
I created semiautomatic landscaping system for this which uses national land survey data.
you can get Heightmaps and matching IR/photo data tiles from their database.(6km x 6km tiles) Those IR maps were then processed to extract RGB mask of forest areas, water areas and flat areas. Then some ICE scattering and shader building using those rgb maps as a good starting point.
Other responsibilities were some volumetric stuff, modeling the airplane and lighting/rendering almost all of the ~60 shots.
Softimage, Arnold and Mental Ray was used.
