hey guys, this is some random abstract i wanted to share with you, nothing outstanding, inspired by the master Borgmann :)

used polygonizer and some twist deformer with ICE.
again nothin fancy but felt to share.

Looks like one of those Julia fractals. Weird..but nice.

Looks like H.R. Giger. Except completely abstract. And SFW. :)

Looks great!
Small criticism, the DOF could really use some more samples.
It's a still and doesn't appear to be too render intensive, give it a few minutes more to render a proper DOF and make it look flawless.

thanks for comments and critics guys, i'm thinking to remove dof, was kinda a mistake and i dont like it either :)

thanks again, Max

Nice Maximus, thanks for sharing.

I am trying the strands effect that Tim Borgmann is showing in the first portion of his presentation. It is based on www.monophyl.com website Strands animation and the cheap trick #4. I get results but not the one expected (the strands are not going in between each particles but in between the particles and the sphere!

Have you attempted the effect?

Hey Daniel,
i didnt really look into that, i've just started for fun tryin to replicate some things Borgmann does, but i'm not that ice expert :)
I can take a look, do you have some image to show me about this effect?

thanks, Max

The effect is as per the picture below.

I watched the video again and I think I figured it out.

oh i understand..well i have a compound for that but..sadly i dont remember who made it since i've changed the name..so credits arent mine. I think it was Helge or someone else, really forgive me i dont remember where i got this! but here it is

Image

create a basic emission from a grid or any poly mesh, create another pointcloud, and in the ice tree create a non simuulated ICE tree, add the compound and plug in the other basic simulation compound to it.

here it is

Thank you for the compound, I will look inside to see what is different from mine (look like I was re-inventing the wheel again).

No biggy, a good ICE exercise anyway!

Love the image, it's really awesome!
By the way, I thought that the DOF was actually motion blur, as if the thing was twisting around. I think it looks great...

Hey chris, yes its actually the motion blur but i'm not really satisfied since it gets confused with dof or something :)

thanks for comments!

Hi Maximus,

Sorry for highjaking your post!

I tried the compound and I don't get your screen result.

The first part is OK: create a geometry as the emitter, create the first particle cloud, basic emission.

The second part is where I get into trouble: create the second particle emission....

Do you create:

a. an empty cloud (polymesh> empty, then create an unsimulated ICE tree)
b. select the emitter geometry and create a different particle cloud basic emission
c. create an empty cloud on the geometry emitter
d. create an empty cloud on the first basic particle emission
e. create a second basic emission on the first basic emission

Any move from the simulator stack to the modeling stack?

I tried most of them and I get weird results (the filament node goes red with error saying the rotation attribute has not been initialized) or the filament node goes green but the particles fly all over the place and there are no filaments in between the particles.

Your help is appreciated. No rush, I know you are busy with a science fiction project!

P.S. I got the Tim Borgmann effect working like in his video demo at UeberTage. :D

Hi Daniel, i just create a second pointcloud empty, nonsimulated ice tree and plug the compound
basically i create a grid -> basic emission from the ice menù standard
then create a pointcloud -> open ice tree -> create ice tree (non simulated) and plug the compound, then drag the basic emission pointcloud into the compound input port and thats it!

i've uploaded a scene for you :)

Thanks Maximus for taking the time to put a scene together. Very much appreciated. I am swamp right now, but i'll test the process as soon as I have a chance.
