Kristinka Hair Tests

Post by rray » 06 Jan 2010, 12:12

Hi all
I thought Anto Matcovic's very awsome Kristinka Hair Toolkit
(see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=199&start=30)
could need a gallery thread.
Edit .. . this turned more into a tests thread, renaming
:ymhug:
Here's my first try, modified one of the samples (Simulation-OnePoint-ShortHair), more heavy "Bend" deformer requires some ear hair removall...

Hey Hirazi! Thanks for your reply.
The hair on the girl head is just a modified sample Anto provided, doesn't fit right with my model, note she still has hair coming out of her ears. The hairdo popped up more or less as an accident while fooling around with some parameters of the bend compound.
The Bow took me about 2 hours to set up, I created curves snapped to a polymesh form template I created, then used loft to create the Nurbs surface.
The new shading (see bow) took me ages to get right, I permanently got either too dark shadowing, or too much transparency in the hair.

Did finally figure out I could do it by using different shaders for surface ("hair renderer" node) and shadow ("constant" node with transparency) in the material render tree. So easy solution by had my head steaming for a few hours

( "Hair renderer" node has transparecy set to 0, while the constant node even allows to set a color for transparency! -- Having the same color as the hair's diffuse seems to work best )

If these are merely "tests", I'd love to see your "gallery" one day... :D

Hi

So, now one in 'cosmetics ad' :) style. It's a common setup, two spots with volumic shadow maps, environment map, rasterizer, final gathering. I wouldn't be enough courageous to use this for sequences, but it seems to be OK for stills. Hair shader is XSI hair renderer, with a lot of gradients on it, for specular 'dots', transparency at roots...

Of course eyebrows and eyelashes are 'real' :) ones - compounds for these are still WIP, but I hope I'll have something usable in a few days.

Cheers

Hi Reinhard
Even if your pictures are tests they are looking really good!
I didn't had time to try Matheus compounds, but I know that actually segments size are in screen space?
Do you have any idea on how to deal with this and camera animations?
I know you can link it with camera distance, but it a trick and there's also the focal !

Thanks! Yes why mental is using pixels for strand units I don't quite get either, probably needs fixing . I don't know any way either around this except the workarounds you mentioned.
Also what needs fixing that hair lit from the side hardly casts any shadows (The hair segment billboards stay oriented to the camera, not to the light when tracing the shadow)
..and that rasterizer bug that attributes sometimes get garbled with >10000 strands :o3
Cheers for putting the picture in the gallery Hirazi!
