Sure, here you go: http://vimeo.com/28237695
It would be great if some of us could come together in force to produce C++ for Softimage tutorials.
We could definitely use more people with higher technical skill or at least some insight into it. I find video-tutorials to be a good way of softening the blow of first being exposed to such a big API.

Thanks! I agree. I have to not be a C++ noob myself before I make videos but maybe some tips here and there as I learn.

Yes it is. I'm Houdini user and it can suck Softimage balls when it comes to documentation. I can do more in Softimage SDK (and i know this program very little, like two weeks spended with it) than with Houdini's HDK (and I use houdini last 2.5 year). Documentation makes BIG difference.

Thanks for tutorial, it will come handy for sure.

I'm starting, I mean I was about to start trying some things with C++ but I just can't make it work.

Windows 7 64bit. Softimage 2012 64bit

Installed Visual C++ 2010 Express

Ran it through the Plugin Manager Command Prompt.

Copied the cppsrc_vector3_union folder (the same project Leo is using in his video) to somewhere else and opened with Visual C++

And I got some errors.

The Conversion Report says:

Conversion Report - Vector3Union.vcproj:
Project upgrade failed.

Cannot load the project due to a corrupt project file.
The following error has occurred during XML parsing: File: D:\test\cppsrc_vector3_union\Vector3Union.vcproj Line: 101 Column: 5 Error Message: System error: -2147154677. The file 'D:\test\cppsrc_vector3_union\Vector3Union.vcproj' has failed to load.

it didn't convert a single file and I have nothing in the Solution Explorer.

Suggestions please?

When you say "opened with Visual C++", did you open it from a Softimage Command Prompt? I just checked and only if you do, VC++ seems to be able to successfully convert that specific project. Generally, starting from a Softimage Command Prompt (with its built-in call to setenv.bat) is a good idea as it sets all the environment variables VC++ needs to decipher the project Softimage generated...
"Open a Softimage Command Prompt & type vcexpress" works for me.
But I'm no expert... (no really, I am no expert! ~x( )

I opened Plugin Manager, right click on User root, and opened Softimage Command Prompt.

And executed vcexpress from there. Same Error.

Did the same procedure but calling setenv.bat from Softimage Command Prompt, and then running vcexpress from there. Same Error.

I'll try again tomorrow...

First of all: The Softimage Command Prompt is probably only necessary if you start VCExpress independent from Softimage. This wasn't clear to me from your previous post. Sorry for the misunderstanding (if any).
And before you try anything else, check if other vcprojects in the example folder exhibit the same behavior...

it may be because you're not running Visual Studio as an admistrator. Under Vista and 7, you wouldn't be able to write files in "C:\Program Files"

Thank you for trying, but I just can't make it work.

I just installed 2008 Express and it seems to be working fine, so meanwhile I think I'll stick with it.
