Using VS 2010 Express to compile 64bit-plugins for Softimage

Post by Leo » 15 Aug 2011, 23:08

Video description:
In this tutorial I demonstrate how to properly install and configure Visual Studio C++ 2010 Express to compile 64bit plugins for Autodesk Softimage.

Sorry that it's a little bit lengthy, but I didn't want to leave anything out.

Visual C++ 2010 Express:
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/e ... pp-express

The Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... en&id=8279

I hope this will give everyone a simple and quick start into the world of Softimage plugins. As far as the actual programming goes, the Softimage documentation is actually excellent.
For ICENodes in particular I can recommend this link here as a starting-point: http://download.autodesk.com/global/doc ... =d28e18632

Have fun!

Will watch this later and get my desktop all 64bit ready as well.

Thanks,
Any reason of using 2010 instead of 2008?

With 2008 it's a massive hassle that requires the use of scripts and the installation in specific default directories.
2010 makes it a hell of a lot easier.

hey!
I have just installed MSV C++ 2010 instead of 2008 but I can't get it
compile my SI's project (32bit for now), I'm getting:

error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'xsi_application.h': No such file or directory

and

IntelliSense: cannot open source file "xsi_application.h"
for each of my SI include.

I'm lauching it with this environement:
------------------------------------------
@echo off

call "C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Softimage 2012.SAP\Application\bin\Setenv.bat"
call "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\vcvarsall.bat" x86

set PATH
set XSISDK_ROOT="C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Softimage 2012.SAP\XSISDK"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\VCExpress.exe" /useenv

echo on

I had to uninstal many components one by one to remove MSVC++2008 may I have broke something?

Thanks
Ahmidou

Very excellent. Thank you so much. I'll be getting into C++ shortly and this will help a lot. Would there be a way for you to add the video to Vimeo as well so I can add it to the Softimage Tutorials group there?
