Migration Subforums

Post by owei » 24 May 2014, 14:49

Hi there!

Under "Mirgration" you might now find software specific subforums. I hope, you find that useful!

Cheers,
oli

Good stuff. It will be interesting to see where most people are migrating to.

Something to take into consideration, for sure...
One thing that's hopefully clear is that the installment of the 4 subforums doesn't mean we want to exclude users who migrated to other software.
For now the regular Migration subforum would seem to be the appropriate place for such other software.

And importantly: Nothing is set in stone yet, so we're very much open to suggestions.
Consider this latest move an attempt to adapt a little better to the new situation ("little" being the operative word for now),
while still staying the si-community we hope you've all "learned to love"...
:-?

I'll be around, though a blender sub forum may be nice also.

Especially if I try implement things from both worlds in these two apps. ;)

Hi Oliver,

I find the subforum under migration a bit confusing. Can't you have a category like "General", "Ice", e.g. called "Migration" on the top level of the board and then split this section into "Houdini", "Maya", etc.? Currently there are only 27 threads in the migration catergory. These could be easily sorted into the single software sections. Additionally there could be a section called "General" for things like "Coping with the depression".

Migration:
- General
- Blender
- Cinema
- Houdini
- Maya
- Modo

This way users could also easily see which package draws the biggest attetion.

Just my 5 cents.

Cheers
Thomas

At this point in the time we're going with the subforums under the current Migration subforum. Like I already implied. this is an experiment, not the definitive shape and form this forum eventually might take. We do not yet want to come across as a multi-software forum, we're still primarily the "good old" si-community, with a slight slant towards other software. Blender (oops) and Cinema 4D (also oops) (edit:) have be added and that will probably be "it" for now. I agree the situation is not ideal, but let us just see how things play out.

I never encountered Subforums before, so this feels a bit strange. But finally that is really up to you how you plan the future of this site.
