Dan's parametric equations and Topo PackAuthor: Daniel Brassard
Daniel is continuing his research and exploration of parametric formulas that started with the Parametric Formula plugin (available below) - now on the ICE modeling platform. To follow the development of his endeavour, visit the si-community thread linked below, which also (on page #2) contains the »Parametric Sandbox« compound which is a basis for custom experimentation with parametric formulas.

The Topo Pack consists of 51 configuratble figures and helper compounds like »Bohemian Dome«, »Conical Spiral Disk«, »Super Sphere« etc.

Download the files. Create a file directory called surface or geometry on your softimage user/application/data/compound directory or workgroup. Decompress the file and move the various compounds to the new directory. Fire up Softimage. Softimage should detect the new compounds.

Create a empty primitive. Create an ICE tree. Choose a primitive compound and connect it to the ICETree. Adjust the parameters to see the effect. Refer to the Topology thread for more information.

Enjoy!

Thanks Dan!

Just a note: natural number E is also included in Joe's pack so dont be surprised if soft complains about the duplicate :)

Cheers

Your are welcome, have fun with these.

The community was looking for example of topology and new primitives. I hope these will serve the purpose.

If you have a conflict with one of the node in the pack, just remove it from the pack after you uncompress it.

My favorite nodes are:

* The cubes with real world units (useful for bounding box simulation, reference to judge the scale of other objects in a scene, etc),
*The super sphere, torus and super cylinder just to name a few.

Great Stuff!
thank you very much!

how can i "weld boundary edges" in ICE?
is there already something to do that?

Oh thank you!

I agree on the cube unit, it's my favorite already. Is it a strange question to ask how to make this work 'inverse'? As in, set a box to 10x10x10 metres, then switch the units to inches and instead of getting a smaller box it will get the correct measures for the same sized box. I think that would be equally useful in a lot of cases.

The only compound I have found so far is Christian Gotzingers "CG Weld Points"

As Hirazi Blue suggested, if you want to do it in ICE, then Christian compound is a good choice but you can improve the compound by using the FilterAllPointsByDistance compound from Julian Johnson to replace Christian filter point inside his compound.

The compound is available on the Softimage Mailing List

Hope that help!
