changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
Hey guys.
My question would be:
Is it possible to change the size and strandsize of an ice pointcloud which was exported to an arnold standin ?
Tried to add an ice tree on top of the empty pointcloud which is loading the standin but that doesnt work.
Any way to do this ?

Did you tried scaling?
Re: changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
Scaling what ?
To make the strands thinner the only way is to set the size, scaling would mean the whole standing would render smaller

No. The procedural node doesn't have any strand-related parameters that would propagate down into the standin.
Re: changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
So the only way would be through an arnold procedural right ?

Yes, through the Arnold API.
It's just a curves node in the .ass, so you I think you'd have to recalculate the num_points, points, and radius.

Ty, as soon as theres time we gonna do that one and hopefully share it ;)
Re: changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
I thought you wanted them just bigger.

Yep, nope I want to change the strandsize/size after storing an ass file. Thats still the best way to cache your hair for rendering if you would be able to change some parameters.Bullit wrote:I thought you wanted them just bigger.
Re: changing size/strandsize of .ass archive
one way is to cache to icecache and use the an ice tree to post modify it before going to arnold..
the other is using the python api to modify the ass file, i have done this many times. i have also wrote a script to read the strands from the ass file and set them as ice data for rendering.
