I saw Autodesk added an auto edge selection for auto-unwrapping in Maya 2016 Sp2 which is great for this kind of tasks and if only we have such a thingDraise wrote:Oh, so you'd need to procedurally generate the UV's or manually unwrap?

emTree
v.1.000 updated Mar 19th 2016. A very interesting tool Eric released as freeware.
Given a set of polygonal objects that have holes (open edges), emTree will merge and
join copies of these objects using these open edges. Depending on how you constructed
your geometry and on the given parameters, it can not only generate trees but all
kinds of objects that have some sort of hierarchical structure, like seaweed, stylized
hair, even 'greeble'. For usage instructions and an quitck overview, see emTree 1.00 - Release / Teaser. For a tutorial, see emTree 1.00 - Tutorial - Elements and Rules + Basic Setup.

Here I am playing around with the tool. It's quite fun, and easy to use. Only.. downside is the lack of UV's and preservation of shader clusters on chunks.
