Softimage 2015 R2 SP2 Rendering issue (SOLVED)

Post by Daniel Brassard » 03 Aug 2016, 05:25

Just switch from Softimage 2015 R1 to R2 SP2

Issue is I can do a quick render region but when I want to render the current pass or frame, I get a quick render window and then an "unspecified failure" error message. I ran runonce.bat but still the same problem. Any advice or help is appreciated.

Mental Ray, O/S is Window 10, Intel quad processor, 32 meg RAM, 2 TB HD, GEForce 660Ti, latest NVidia drivers.

I Have re-installed Softimage 2015 R2 SP2. Quick test on a new scene, create a surface cylinder, quick render region working. Try to render current frame, a render window pop up quickly and disappear. Error message "unspecified error"

Cannot find the error log, no message in the script window also.

Ran runonce.bat with no success.

Cannot reproduce... MR on Windows 10 myself, but rendering still works...
Does this happen only when rendering "current frame"? Does the "render region" still work?
Have you tried any other renderer?
Could it perhaps be some "permission" issue?

Hi Hirazi,

Thanks for the help. It only started since I switch to R2. R1 worked fine on the same system/configuration but, since R2 is a brand new install, maybe something went wrong in the install process, that is why I did try to uninstall/install again.

The render region work fine, that is the odd thing as it use MR to render the region as well. I don't have another rendered at this time that work with Softimage: I have access to Arnold and Renderman but only on Maya. I am planning to buy redshift in the future but MR is my main renderer in Softimage at the moment.

There is a way to kick MR in debug mode, do you know what it is? (I don't remember it, it involve left alt/ctrl/shift and render region I think)

I'll check the permission.

I hope you don't have any previous 2015 installed at the same time. I got that specific error due to that.

Harrrrrr! Stupid me, rookie mistake.

I have to run Softimage in "administrator" mode with Window 10 as Hirazi suspected. SOLVED.

Thanks for all the help Hirazi and Draise. This Community rocks as always.

is there a fix for this because I think its not only a windows 10 thing.

basically at work I have to run XSI as administrator for it to find a license and work correctly

at home (again still windows 10) I dont have to. so something messed up on my work install which is self initiated as was trying to fix a oculus problem with permissions

both windows 10, both latest RC2 XSI
Gossip is what no one claims to like, but everybody enjoys.

Allow SI into the windows administrative permission list, or lower your administrative verification requirements in the W10 settings. I assume your work machine would have higher screening to not allow anyone to tamper with it.

Search in the explorer, control panel or Cortana: Change User Account Control Settings or Change WIndows SmartScreen settings.

That should do it.

I just went in and removed all "read-only" attributes for the User Folder, the directory where I store my projects,
the directory where I place my workgroups and the installation directory (??? IIRC)... :-?
