Hey there,

So I am weening myself off Maya and trying to get through a whole project in Softimage. My main focus is modeling and texturing. A feature I am really missing is the ability to pack the uvs in 0-1 space for an object comprised of several merged meshes. In other packages you simply hit the pack button and it does it automatically.

I know the Unfold operator packs the UVs, but what if your merging objects with existing uv's? Do I really have to select each island and transform and scale them manually?

I also know that Softimage usually provides a solution to almost any problem, you just have to do it the Softimage way. How is everyone else doing this? Any scripts? Plugins?

Cheers,
Matt

You can add an Unfold operator to an existing UV property, and just use its packing features without re-unfolding.

Thanks! It would be cool if this was a tool made available in the Texture Editor.

Cheers,
Matt

I've tried it but it just doesn't work well.

The method I tried is to disconnect all UV Islands. Apply Unfold, Copy the existing UV into the new Unfold UV, and play with the Packing options in the Unfold Op PPG. It may work sometimes.

@myara

Thanks, the method you provided seems to produce more predictable results.

Cheers,
Matt
