Softimage Viewer

Post by philpense » 16 Sep 2011, 22:43

Autodesk has a viewer for showcase projects. I write to inquire if there is a viewer for Softinage 2012 projects. As a beginner I do not have anything to view yet. Possibly, the showcase viewer can work wilth softimage projects. Guidance sought/

Judging from the documentation of the Showcase 2012 software itself, if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say that the Showcase Viewer doesn't work with Softimage files.
What precisely are you looking for? An object viewer?

you can export your scene or object or whatever you want into a fbx file and view with this free tool

http://fbx.clockstone.com/fbx-viewer-features.html#

it imports also other format, like obj, to be honest i've tested it with fbx and its pretty awesome, i didnt have success with objs tho, sometimes it loses the shading and they are invisible, i guess its a bug due to the early stage of the software.

Autodesk also has a great Autodesk FBX converter with a Viewer integrated. Its free too.

fbx converter 32bit link: http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/f ... er_win.exe

fbx converter 64bit link: http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/f ... in_x64.exe

here is the plugin page http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc ... eID=123112

Much thanks for the timely reply. Perhaps I can ask you about basic modeling. Autodesk has emailed me to say that, although there are SoftImage youtube tutorials, the area of modeling, especially for novices is not well covered. I am seeking guidance on tools and controls and controls in an effort to create a typical metropolitan subway. Hoping I can get a step guide to

- Creating the required wireframing...
- Animating the train to move from one station to another
- Searching for existing wireframes by objet type
- Creating an underground subway station

The userguide is necessary but not sufficient to cultivate this skill set. Much appreciation
