Redshift gotchas?
As rendering with Mental Ray keeps on crashing my computer and 3delight seems as "dead as a dodo", I am considering buying myself a Redshift license after all. Now the following question arises: are there any known issues with Windows 10 and/or a Geforce GTX 970 graphics card with Redshift that I should know about before investing my (last remaining) money in the product???

Redshift have its own forum and there you will find all the answers to your questions
We purchased RS more than 2 years ago.. and forgot about any other rendrers

But I am asking this purely from a Softimage POV,
so I think someone should be able to answer my question here...

Re: Redshift gotchas?
This is from Redshift :
On my Win 7 (double GTX960) , Redshift stable as a Rock !About a week ago, I installed Windows 10 on my main work computer to maximize the possibility of such issues. Indeed, I’m able to confirm that there are driver issues. In some cases, the crashes can even happen within the initialization of Redshift, were only a set of very basic CUDA operations is executed.
This is pointing to a fundamental issue with the NVidia drivers on Windows 10. I’m currently using the latest ones (355.98) and, even though they proved to be a big improvement over the previous ones, they still occasionally produce stability issues. Some users recommend reducing the amount of VRAM that Redshift is allowed to use (in the Memory tab) as a workaround. But, frankly, you shouldn’t have to do that.
Given the above, we recommend that users who haven’t upgraded to Windows 10 yet, refrain from doing so until the driver issues have been fully resolved - or until we find a workaround!
Re: Redshift gotchas?
At this time, It seems that win 10 is not advisable for redshift.
I have redshift with win 7 and 2 GTX 970 : no problem, it works perfect with very good performances !
Since redshift is at home, I forgot MR and VR too.

Thanks guys. This kills off the illusion of escaping my MR crashes quite convincingly...

Well, at least until Nvidia provides reliable drivers. This isn't a problem on Redshift's end, but Nvidia's.
Other than that, some current limitations:
- Doesn't render NURBS
- Doesn't provide any baking tools (Ultimap, Rendermap)
- 'ShapeInstanceTime' and 'Particle Instance Animation Time' are not supported
- AOVs aren't visible in the render region
We've been using Redshift for the last 2.5 years in our productions and the items above haven't been that big a deal for us.

Choosing another renderer will not solve your problem, but downgrading to Win7 probably will. Just don't use Win10, it's basically Win7 plus built-in spyware, nothing else.
Beside that, I highly recommend to download the demo version of Redshift and to play around with it to test it's stability. For me it's the renderer I was dreaming about for years and Redshift made this dream become true. Redshift finally delivers the level of performance and interactivity you would expect from modern hardware and makes rendering fun again.

Re: Redshift gotchas?
Just thought I would pipe up: I am using Redshift on a Windows 10 machine and have not noticed any problems, at least since the drivers started supporting wddm 2.0 on older cards. Obviously that isn't the case for other people.
Re: Redshift gotchas?
im running windows 10 and redshift demo without any crash or issue since its release GTX 770.
Re: Redshift gotchas?
Does the demo have a time limit?

No, it's just watermarked.
Re: Redshift gotchas?
Hello,
I'm currently running Redshift on windows 10 with 2 GTX970 and I didn't notice any problem.

Re: Redshift gotchas?
Just finished a job where I used win 10/ GTX 970/ soft 2015 sp1 for a week, nonstop, without any problems (work during the day, render at night). Latest nvidia drivers.
