This is weird. I can't duplicate my pass which has all my little this and that's set up.
Restarted machine, restarted Softimage, (v12) tried merging my problem scene into a new scene... no luck.
I don't get an error, the script editor line at the bottom doesn't put out an error. ... tried hitting F5 to refresh. Nothin'.
New file? Passes duplicate fine. Other scenes, ditto. Duplicate works.
Remaking passes by hand for now, but curious - any ideas on how to fix? Any other places / ways to duplicate a pass?
Thanks,
Marc
Can't Duplicate Passes
Re: Can't Duplicate Passes
Never came across that, but you can isolate the problem models/assets by saving a temp version and deleting by halves.
Like deleting half of the stuff in the pass, try to duplictate, then deleting half of the half if it still didn't duplicate.. and repeating until you can duplicate, to find out/narrow down what is preventing duplication of your pass.
Good luck!

+1 with FXDude.
If you don't want to remake your passes by hand, try that :
http://www.ethivierge.com/page/tools/old-tools/passmanager-cat/
It changed my life with heavy multiple scenes.

Re: Can't Duplicate Passes
I will definitely give PassManager a look-see in a little bit, but wanted to come back to say that I ran some tests. In the end I deleted EVERY single item from the scene ... and I STILL couldn't duplicate the pass. However, I had the Render Tree open at the time. ... and I watched "Pass1" turn into "Pass2" there though it didn't show up in the Pass panel. Duplicating Pass1 again yielded a Pass3 in the Render Tree. Hhmm.
So now this entire time I've been Ctrl-D'ing passes to duplicate. But - if I go to the Render -> Pass -> Edit -> Duplicate Current Pass ....... THE PASS DUPLICATES.
And on top of all this. ... I discovered that I cannot Ctrl-D passes in COMPLETELY NEW SCENES now.
Weirder and weirder.
So. "Duplicate Current Pass" for now .. since that works and I'll look into PassManager.
Thank you again, all.

Re: Can't Duplicate Passes
I can recall this one....
Directly duplicating from the Pass menu didn't work, from the Pass menu it did.
Not sure where this was discussed, I reckon the xsi mailinglist.
Don't know if there was ever a solution of why, or how to avoid this.. sorry.
