Re: Capture as MKV AVC AAC ?
saving as a quicktime should give you the option of mp4 encoding... I think
Re: Capture as MKV AVC AAC ?
Thanks. I'd have prefered to create a MKV but let's try QuickTime then.
When I select "QuickTime" in the drop down menu, then "codec" button, I get the "H264" codec, so it's fine.
But there's something I never noticed before: why isn't it possible to select the audio codec?

You might run into problems when capturing with the h.264 codec as is being discussed

hmm, 64bit issue could be why I'v been saving captures as image sequences all these years .. memory kinda sucky and I was never a huge fan of quicktime as a container in the first place really. Just had a vague feeling that the option for mp4 / 264 was in there

I don't think x64 has much to do with it, it's the nature of h.264.
It's probably what Guillaume Laforge mentions in the fourth post of that thread:

(Quoted from here)H264 is a codec that support frame reordering decompression. This feature can't work easily in a capture as not all the frames are not on disk yet. I think that's why it is not supported.

Also, 64 bit Softimage will only use/see a small sets of codecs. This due to the fact most codecs are 32bit only, especially older ones.
