Camera Clipping Planes Not Rendering

Post by chepmedia » 27 Jun 2013, 22:32

Two related questions.

#1
I set my camera to clip a scene but when I render (region or final) the clipping planes are not respected.

New camera in the same scene, still doesn't clip.

New scene ... DOES clip.

Why does my 1st scene not respect the clipping planes?

#2
This is the first time I'm using clipping. In the 2nd new scene I was surprised that the "plane" is not flat and does not 'cut' through a polygon but rather evaluates, "does the clipping plane touch a polygon, if yes then render that WHOLE polygon" which results in a jaggy (depending on the rez of the poly model..) plane render.

Can I get the kind of render I'm looking for where the plane slices through ploygons?

Softimage 2012 SP1. Scanline mental ray. (Tried raytracing too, no difference.)

Thank you,

Marc

I don't think that clipping planes are designed for that - you're better off with a render time boolean or depending on the simplicity of the scene an animated slice geo might work. You could take a look at the shader pack here (think its called visbool) for the render time stuff:
