V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
@jonatas
Thanks!
Hm...didn´t get troubles with render region so far. Though it seems, that the Vray buffer renders faster. Perhaps get in contact with the support guys at chaosgroup if you have trouble.
Well, the color setting I choose deliver the best results for indoor/outdoor ligthing. These are used by many tuts and tips around Vray on the web. Of course you could do all this in post, but this way you can get your render already near the look that you are after. All the color curve stuff back and forth is quite heavy to understand, in my eyes...Playing around with these setting will gave me some idea, though ;)
@curly
...sorry, I don´t know. Post you questen at the Vray forum at chaosgroup. They might can tell you. By the way, please use URL tag ;) Thanks!

So you can limit your raytracing to only reflective objects. ( Excellent raytracer but to slow for doing character animation.)
That looks to be a really hacky way to turn off primary ray visibility. Just turn off primary visibility for those objects you don't want to be visible....

Hey Ciaran, spherefade is more like a tool forCiaranM wrote:curly wrote:Does anyone know whether the VraySphereFade option is available for Softimage?

a) rendering your static environment with interpolated gi solutions (fast)
b) using spherefade to render your characters + nearby env. with bruteforce gi, so you still get bounces from gi on env.

I don't think their vray is the same as "ours"oglu wrote:digital domain and vray

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
I was wondering if anyone has had problems with normal mapping. It just doesn't seem to work like in MR by plugging the xsinormalMap

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
if it's not supported... how are we suppose to use a normal map with Vray?
Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Maybe use SI "bump generator" node (since it is in the list of supported nodes) and plug it in material bump input?Soth3dlife wrote:if it's not supported... how are we suppose to use a normal map with Vray?
Should be working just fine.
There is "bump map" input in standard Vray material shader (maps-bump), as well.

Hey folks - just done the update of VRay to 1.6. and the first thing I noticed is the speed increase - Excellent!, however, Displacement doesn't seem to work? Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Hey folks, I've just noticed a colour issue with VRay 1.6, and I can't for the life of me figure out what the issue is: My preview renders out the background colour as the colour I have chosen - blue, but once I save it out from VRay as a .jpeg blue becomes a sort of Blueish Purple? I am using the render setup method as per the tutorial that this thread is based on? Linear workflow with HSV exponential as the colour map type. It's as though VRay has it's on way of interpreting colours, because even a screen grab of the render preview shows the blue as a bluey purple? I'm confused?

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Did you tried to output in a format that can maintain the 32 or 16 bits?

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Haven't tried that yet? Thanks for the insight though. Strange because the last version of VRay the colour space seemed to be the same. Ill keep everyone posted on developments.

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Yep, so rendering out .jpeg compresses the true colour space. Rendering out as .TIFF, .PIC, .TGA you get exactly the same image as per your preview pane? No brainer really?
