Set weightmap by selecting without painting manually

Post by NNois » 29 Jun 2009, 16:06

Hello, I can't find the right process to set a weightmap by simply selecting points and setting a weightmap value, I'm missing something what to do when painting manually points is not possible ?

Easiest way is to use the Weight Editor. It allows you to pick your envelope's vertices and give them explicit weighting values for their deformers.

Yes but it's for envellopes weights, I'm speaking about a classic weightmap who can be used for example for shading purpose.

Doh... sorry for not reading your first post correctly. But I see what you mean.
You cannot do this by default, but somebody did write a script for it called 'WMEditorPB' or something like that.
You should be able to download it from here.

If it doesn't work, you could always paint with the brush set to ABS (absolute) mode and with the opacity set to the value you want to assign.
Hide any polys/verts to which you don't want to apply the absolute value to making the painting quick and straightforward.

Hope this helps you out. Let us know how you get on. :)

hi,
if you want, here's a little script i've came up with.
just remember to change your preferences to Javascript in the editor.

usage:
-tag points
-shift+select the weightmap you want to modify in the explorer
-run
-inform the new value on the input box

hope it helps.
