Re: Siggraph 2019

Maya Bifrost seems to finaly have started to reach ICE feet. https://area.autodesk.com/blogs/the-maya-blog/introducing-bifrost-for-maya/ Yeah these graphs are showing almost the same functionality as ICE. As he said, ''one graph without switching contexts or graph semantics'', also a 'shader style'...

Re: Epic Games acquires Shave and a Haircut

As far as I know (feel a bit confident with rigging-animation in Maya, but never used any Maya hair), Yeti is still popular for fur (while Yeti is also affected by some Shave's patents). Long hair, especially show-reels on Artstation , that's mainly built-in xGen, some Ornatrix here and there. xGen ...

Re: Epic Games acquires Shave and a Haircut

If I were Joe, I'd try to set a patent at some strategic point in GPU world, so no one would be able to avoid the thing. That should work for next twenty years :). According to link from first post, he already previewed full GPU version 2016, but never released that one, so, could be something like ...

Re: Unreal Engine for free

Yep. But i am concerned, after all this years Shave & haircut is still a technology that is appealing? I mean by this time we should be talking about full simulation environment with hair getting water and turning wet. Perhaps they wanted patents. Author was very proficient in protecting the in...

Re: Parenting

It happens if transform of future child object is animated (by function curves, expressions, mixer). If so, SI won't calculate compensation anymore. If you can, just put the parent at world origin before parenting. It is possible to compensate later by changing the neutral pose, but you'll need inve...

Re: Bifrost Beta

I'd say ''interactive'' is better word. MCG is not interactive, that's it. Compilation could be set enough fast for efficient interactivity, Houdini is great example of that (while I believe it's really complex system in Houdini, of lazy evaluation and in-advance analyzing the network, behind that)....

Re: Bifrost Beta

So from user perspective, that's more like Houdini, where's possible to get immediate response, but not all the time. User perspective in Houdini : as long as something is exposed as parameter on 'top'' of network, response is immediate, while tweaks inside the network (thing like mixing values or s...

Re: ICE return as standalone ?

Definitively there is stronger activity around Maya and Max in these months, while is not clear what's exactly happening. New expansion, or, they are leaving the planet :) Second sounds nice, btw.

Re: ICE return as standalone ?

From what I've heard, re-sellers are calling Mayans these days with story, something like ''please stay with subscription, version 2020 is coming soon, with Bifrost'". On opposite side, similar rumors are circulating around for a long time. Hard to know, is it a real signal or just an echo of s...

...and... object/deformation motion blur is not enabled in EEVEE, yet. You won't be able to render the falling tower, realistically, at least not in one go.

Re: Best Blender 2.8 build?

In last download of 2.8, open subd playback is still nowhere close to 2.79, it's around 5 times slower. Most likely, they didn't enabled OpenSubd completely, yet. That's basic feature...

Re: Best Blender 2.8 build?

To move in XY or XZ just press 1, 3, 7, 9 (front view, side view, etc) and press G to move. Or you can in perspective view press G and then Shift Z, Y or Z to substract that axis. ( G + shift Z equals XY ). In no time you will find industry standard gizmos useless or annoying. Such adaptation never...

Re: Best Blender 2.8 build?

I have to enable it everytime i open Blender...redundant? Should be possible to get them on load by saving a startup file, or, by saving the preferences. It seems to me, that they are walking in circle, when it comes to toolbar and related tools. Hope it will possible to customize the entire thing,...

Re: Best Blender 2.8 build?

It's still beta, interface is changing, almost daily. A lot of old features are not rewired, yet. I'd believe they'll release a final before next Blender conference, this should be sometime in October.

Re: Redshift got bougth by Maxon

Game style renderer like EEVEE against path-tracer is unfair comparison, there is a good number of features just not possible in EEVEE. Not only raytracing is missing, shadows from area lights and similar - for now it can't even render the object or deformation motion blur, and according to limitati...
