hey guys, i'm tryin to figure out how to produce a volumetric effect with parti volume and parti volume photon, but i just get a black render. I like what AD is doing with Softimage, i also like the features and the work SI developers are doing, but somehow i cant really get whats the Softimage direction and mostly...why? Many discussions were made about this subject and the "anti-houdini" one seems a bit embarassing to me at lea...

here is a quick project i did today, was kinda bored you can tell
used Diffraction shader for diamonds, rest is pretty elemental, hdri lighting only, and a spot emitting photons for caustic.

@SreckoM because Vray is failing bad, its been 5 years in development? still no news, i was in beta and they were pretty slow to develop and fix stuff (obviously because of the small userbase, not blaming CGroup). Dunno how further they went, but when i was in beta everything was a crash right after...

well yeah, i didnt want any scatter effect, but since i'm still learning and sometimes i get lost in those nodes, when i was using skinSSS and simpleSSS even without lightmap wrote without scattering had insane render time, i think there is something going on with the EXSI enhance shaders, wich agai...

thanks for comments! i actually made those shader for a bigger project i'm doing so we'll see later how they turn out! regarding enhance xsi shaders i agree they should be implemented, or at least revamp the procedural textures since they are totally obsolete and few compared to any other 3d package...

well, snow is made with subsurface shader, and other 2 principal shaders to control the flakes and the specular, a little of bump for large surfaces done with enhance xsi shaders, render time is surprisingly great for this shader, here you can check the tree: http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/794/s...

dont think mr 3.9 is integrated at all, just that Unified Sampling feature. And regarding iRay, sayin is useless is kinda unprofessional.. Just think with a gt460 gfx card wich cost 90bucks you can have cpu+gpu rendering for insane quality for product/archviz, its a feature of the render engine wich...
