Re: How do you stop PPG's popping up?
When I need to do this I use the same command as Hirazi but I apply it using a function decorator which temporarily sets values while a function runs. It's from Patrick Boucher and the code is here . It's also described on this blog post . So you just include the tempSetValues decorator code and the...

Re: Announcing Redshift - Biased GPU Renderer
interview of Redshift, Nicolas Burtnyk (CEO) : http://www.3d-test.com/contenu.php?id=2747 Thanks for the link! Interesting interview. One message though is that OpenCL is on the "long-term roadmap" and they haven't done much work on it yet. Perhaps it should not be on Redshift's "com...

Radeon cards are cheaper and stronger than nvidia's which I ditched a while ago.
No idea about timeline.

Re: No more upgrades (from 2015 onwards)!!!
Given the current penalties for upgrading without subscription, it doesn't seem like that much of a change. At first I thought it was going to be rental only Adobe-style.

It was promoted as part of a CGSociety challenge. ePMV is a nice tool if you do biomedical or chemical stuff. It doesn't look like there has been much recent development on the Softimage plugin.

Re: 3delight 4.0 for Softimage
3Delight 4.0.1 has been released. I haven't downloaded it yet but it seems like most of the features have been gradually released in the 3.x series. They have also increased the free version from 2 to 4 cores.

Sure, but it will take me some time. Maybe you could try the free version of Implosia first. I believe it is here: http://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1760

Re: ICE Booleans video
As I recall, the boolean operations are based on the open-source Carve CSG library . There was a free version of Implosia early on and you might still be able to get it. I also made a custom ICE node based on Carve but I never packaged and released it since Implosia was available. If someone needs i...

That TomsHardware page is down right now. $50/month seems kind of high to me if the perpetual license is $795.

Just to emphasize the amount of work that translator plugins are, this is from the Softimage mailing list when V-Ray for SI was finally released: From our point of view, 80% of the coding and support effort goes into the translator plugins. Those years of development for V-Ray for Softimage were spe...

What is the subscription cost for the suites? Not sure how to find it on the Autodesk sites. Autodesk Entertainment Creation Suite Ultimate 2014 Priced from: £7,500.00 From Autodesk Store. Sorry, what I meant was, if you upgrade to a suite, then what is the annual subscription maintenance price?

Re: Some news from Siggraph
it wouldn't surprise me if they made a premium suite upgrade deal in the future. On a related subject, I noticed that there is a deal now on the web site to upgrade to the ultimate suite (all three apps) for the same price as the premium suite (max or maya + softimage) From the Softimage weekly new...
