Apparently it's because the market doesn't want us to have options.MauricioPC wrote:I don't understand why we can't have options ... Rental and Purchase.

Re: Autodesk going all rental?
That does it! I'm not renewing my Softimage subscription! Actually the whole earnings call is a pretty interesting read. Another quote from Carl Bass: Three years from now it will be surprising to me if anybody is really running very much perpetual desktop software. It's also interesting that Bass b...

Re: Extension release for 3ds Max and Maya 2015.
Funny how, in mine interpretation, he's talking a lot here about softimage compounds and how you can share it with others. The same way Houdini does with it's digital assets system. There's even a ICE print at the beginning! Yes, interesting how he says they plan to make the assets shareable with o...

I actually never checked. Hopefully fabric would find the path to PySide.forton wrote:
Wouldn't that break fabric engine?

Any chance you installed Fabric Engine? Sometimes that can cause a conflict. That happened to me but there's a simple solution. I'd have to look it up though.

I believe the Gigaboolean compound was the Carve CSG library wrapped in an ICE node.

Re: AD: new SI licensing rules!!!
Well that's an improvement. But does that mean that we would need to maintain a Maya subscription in order to continue using Softimage if we go with the transition offer beyond 2 years? It seems unclear. The updated Autodesk announcement says: If you need to use Softimage after February 1, 2016 you...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
I'm really confused about this. I am deeply saddened that Autodesk have canned Softimage. However I want to keep on using it, long after 2016. I accept that I will probably have to start learning Maya or Max in the meantime but I definitely still want to keep on using Softimage, even if it's eventu...

Not really! What I hope happens is that SideFX take advantage of the situation and offer us a Houdini license for a good 'crossgrade' price
Well, the real expense in Houdini isn't so much the initial license cost, but the relatively high annual maintenance cost.

Re: Autodesk character generator
Yep.
When this was at Autodesk Labs it was "Pinnocchio." Before that it was a free service at Mixamo. The characters have been useful to me when I need some quick models for Unity.
