Oil Rig Animation Work Available

Anyone interested in doing oil rig animation? I have projects all done in Softimage and the customer wants to expand on it. I no longer have the time to do it and I'm not really in this line of work anymore. If you have an interest, let me know and I'll put you directly in contact with the drilling ...

Re: Fusion 360

I think rental only. If you search, you can find the 2013 version for free and try it a bit. I'm not sure how much it's improved since then.

Re: New MoI beta

There's a lot of them in the CAD world. Solidworks, Solid Edge, NX, Catia, Rhino, Creo and yes, Inventor are just a few that come to mind. Those are all major packages and way overkill for just some basic solid modeling where MoI fits in really well. Great price and great tool. Of course it would be...

Re: New MoI beta

I love MoI. I've used it for years. Great tool set and a really nice mesh generator that gives you great control over the poly mesh when you export.

I've always wished MoI (or a toolset like it) would have been integrated with SI. It would have really given it a unique capability.

He cares that he makes as much as about 1000 vfx artists put together. That's about all.

Shame on Avid as well for selling to this monster.

Re: Anti-Autodesk Strategies

It's a small chance I admit. It all depends on how many people they hear from. SI users are of no concern by themselves but if those same users damage other sales then they might notice. What they are counting on is that SI users will be upset for a while but then change to Max or Maya. If we make i...

Anti-Autodesk Strategies

My view is that anything that is not financial in nature will not change AD's mind about SI. Therefore I suggest the following: Contact Autodesk AND your retailer DIRECTLY. Chances are the people who matter never look here and don't care unless they hear from a lot of people. Let them know how much ...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

Autodesk is the destroyer of great software and innovation. They buy something good, milk it as long they can, develop as little as possible and run it into the ground. Then they move on, buy something else and destroy that too. It's such a shame that they can prosper that way.

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

Amazing how all the worst software companies on earth always end up being the standard.

There's a special place in hell for Autodesk.

SI 3rd party development was never better than right now. Very sad.

Re: Marc Petit joins Exocortex

I wouldn't read to much into SI's lack of development. I'm in a job not where I use Inventor a lot and this is supposedly one of Autodesk's flagship products. They don't even develop it properly! I think it's pretty much par for the course with any AD product. The sad thing is, once a product is suc...

Re: A really basic animation question...

Thanks, I'll try that. I had to get it done so I ended up moving everything else in the scene and leaving the animated objects where they were. Not ideal and so frustrating...but anyway, I'm sure it's user error and it was not set up right from the start.

Re: A really basic animation question...

The scene is large so I'll have to try to re-create it in a simpler one. csaez - I still get the same problem with the script. All the objects move from their current location scattering them everywhere. They're still animated but all wrong positions and orientations. missingkey - when I add them to...

A really basic animation question...

Sorry for what seems like such a ridiculously simple question, I usually work on still shots so animation is not my strength as you can see. I have several animated parts. I want to move them as a group to another location. I've tried making a transform group, model, regular group etc. but they just...

Re: Announcing Redshift - Biased GPU Renderer

The nice thing is that Redshift can easily do several methods, so you use what works best in your situation. It gives you the most flexibility and best performance. It seems there where a lot of "unbiased" GPU renderers because they were easier to make, not because the performance was bett...

Poor man's? Maybe the opposite (in terms of performance) :)

This is a fantastic tool for freelancers, you can now compete with a render farm with just a couple graphics cards.
