Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
In typical 3ds max fashion they've slapped another feature on top of its pile of disjointed features. With Crowd FX we were given a system that anybody who knows ICE can control and extend. It uses a system that was already there to begin with, that people are familiar with. That 3ds max feature may...

Re: Softimage2014?
To me that day they start doing decent update work on the fx tree is the day they finally start taking SI as a whole seriously, and not just ICE. Is it too far-fetched to think they will at some point merge all the node-based stuff into one unified system? Render tree, FX tree, ICE. I always though...

Re: keep points instead of delete
Also the case where i don't use the "not" node works, but does this mean it loops over many times since it is "Array of Integer per Point"? The Delete Point node expects its input to be per point. If you have an array of IDs per object, you can plug it and a Get Point ID into a ...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)
Ok, instead of arguing against XSI, let's argue for the reverse? What's would you say is modern and state-of-the-art, and therefore not "aging", in animation, modeling and rendering in XSI? whats happened in the last, say, 8 years in those areas? Everything ages, but some things age bette...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)
frankly i don't want to "solve problems on the fly". I just want to pull on some sliders and push a bunch of buttons that do the job. Then what do you do when the software lacks those sliders and buttons? I work at a small studio, and we've had countless situations where we needed a very ...

Re: 24" Panasonic 4K tablet with digitizer on W8
eizo got one 4k monitor...it costs about 25k € A bit pricey still :D Hisense is about to release 4K television sets between 50" and 110", the cheapest of which will be below $10,000. I would put one of those on the wall and use as a monitor any day. But it's still a few dollars too much, ...

Re: 24" Panasonic 4K tablet with digitizer on W8
I don't care for the tablet, but I really want an affordable 4K display. A bigger one of course. 4K at 40" would be awesome.

Re: Replace instance....
Create a second point cloud. Read all relevant data from the first point cloud (Pointposition, Orientation, Scale) and set the same values for the second point cloud. For the particle shape use your highres instance. When reading attributes from the first point cloud and setting it on the second, yo...

Re: Fractal with ICE - WIP
With your default settings, 20 iterations worked, as did 30 (RAM consumption only about 500 MB). But at 30 iterations I then doubled the X subdivisions to 8, and that made the scene crash after a while.

Re: distributing original meshes from pointcloud instances
This script converts your instance point cloud into geometry. It generates duplicates of the instance master at the right SRT settings: Pointcloud deInstance (find it on rray.de) If I remember correctly, it won't duplicate a hierarchy. And it needs a bunch of attributes to exist on your ICE tree (su...

Alright, I'll check there from now on. But just in case anyone else runs into the problem: the 64 bit installer is the second download, so I had picked the wrong one.
