Re: where is the softimage equivalent
As I stated a while back on XSIBase I really don't think the status or potential of Softimage to become a real competitor to Autodesk's products had anything to do with the buyout. Avid wanted/needed to sell and at the price they sold Softimage for it was relatively speaking "a steal". So ...

Re: where is the softimage equivalent
The impression I get from the way Autodesk struggles with Softimage is that they still do not know what to do with the product, where to place it etc. Maybe something like this materializes once Softimage 2010 is actually released. I wouldn't hold my breath, though... ;)

Re: Here you can post your Petitions
Well, the availability of commercial training material has everything to do with the (perceived) market share of the software. Maya is bigger than Softimage, so it's way more interesting for commercial trainers to focus on Maya. Maybe Autodesk will, once it figures out, what to do with Softimage in ...

Re: Scatter Particles Per Poly
A little belatedly I can confirm this issue on Vista 64 as well...
Not being able to properly report bugs unless you are "on subscription" seems a bit strange, though...
My vote would be for the return of some kind of web form...

Re: scriptspot?
Well the closest thing the XSI Community has, I guess, is the "XSI Database", but that's mainly for shader presets and hasn't really taken off yet. ;)

Re: Small FG map + big resolution image
If I understand you correctly, this should be as easy as
- Pointing the Map File to your "small" FG-map
- Setting "Final Gathering > Map File Settings" to "Only use FG points from file".

Looks very impressive...
(And the flower pot might just be new... It doesn't stand out as being too new IMHO!)

Re: collaborative project?
As I stated in the "other" thread, I like the idea...
Might even flush some lurkers out of hiding ;).
My question, however, would be: along which lines are you thinking/what do you envision?
What kind of project would/should this eventually become?

Re: Where do we go from here?
I really like the idea of a collaborative project, but after having watched another community struggle with setting up such a project and ultimately giving up on the whole idea, I guess one would need a very very good idea to get things going and to motivate enough people to actually participate. Bu...

Re: ICE Attributes & Passes
Thanks!
Not quite the answer I was hoping for,
but if ICE and Passes cannot play nice together yet,
I guess I'll have to wait for Smith Micro's Softimage 2345... ;)

ICE Attributes & Passes
Today I wanted to render a scene with two passes: an ordinary pass containing particles and a second pass for just the (same) particles and utilizing an ICE attribute to drive the intensity of a constant shader to use as info for compositing. When I tried to create an override on the original materi...

I read on some other forum the trailer contains too much information on the story already,
so I decided not to watch it yet...
BTW: I moved this topic from "News" to "Open Discussion", I hope you won't mind...

Re: ICE Tutorial Requests
Although it's Leo's decision alone, what to pick, obviously, my imaginary vote would go to Deracus' grasslands too. Bryitis' idea sounds fascinating too, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up with that probable kind of complexity...

Would be too bad if they didn't put it online, as I think I would rather enjoy this, in all it's glorious "campiness" and only have access to ARD, ZDF and WDR where I live...
