Re: thingsyou hate about softimage
The "royal pain" that is laughingly called "XSI Hair". ~x( I'm curious, what do you find a PITA about the hair? For grooming, I find it quite good. Certainly not the best around, but decent. They even used it for "98% human" or whatever was called that Ape campaign wit...

Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
Yep, all "serious work" is rendered with 3rd party renderers- Arnold, PRman, Vray, 3delight (is it still alive?) and... Mray in the past when it was still strong and 3rd party for most apps.

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
The imminent death of the generalist software has been foretold numerous times in the last decade or so and yet they’re still around. Interestingly enough for example Modo is a package that is “regressing” from a pure modeler to something very akin a generalist app at every new version. ;) That's a...

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Dude, are you following me? Haha, j.k... :D You have some good points and some not so good. For example, one of those not so good is that nobody intends or expects Houdini to become a modeling app. Is Softimage or Maya a modeling app? No, they're multi-purpose and that's what Houdini needs to be to ...

In his own words..."Under the hood this is simple edit node with all it`s features", so no. More Like a hack of what is already there. Isn't that an adequate definition of most plugins? :D I don't think so, no. I'd slap that characterization on a "tool". Traditionally, for plug-...

Very nice renders. The trees (foliage) look a bit too low poly, but otherwise very good lighting and mood - love the overcast.

I think you don't have to look as far: in UK, even though officially the metric system is used, the imperial system is still widely used by the public. If wikipedia lies, I lie too.Rork wrote:But who is silly enough to still use inches on this planet... Oh wait... the US... ;-P

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Some processes are single threaded while others multi. Rendering, as is with any rendering engine, is always multi so having slightly slower more cores is better than slightly faster fewer cores most of the time.
Double Xeon systems however are much more expensive than an i7 platform, so that's that.

Not a big fan of mixing the "real" hair with the cardboard one, but otherwise the characters look great!

For some reason I have the odd feeling that we'd be BFF IRL if we had the chance to meet each other.
It's just a feeling obviously.

... My father died at 59 from Alzheimer's. My terminal illness of choice for my analogy was random. Or, most likely influenced by a cultural norm, which unfortunately uses cancer for a doomed human condition. What bugs me is this: do you have hard feelings (because you know why) towards me or you o...

I'm not out to shit on people's moods or happiness and I'm sorry (not really :P) if I'll manage to do just that, but in spite of the Soft's awesomeness there's one thing nobody can contest: XSI's days are numbered. Sure everything dies, but just like a patient being told they (because "he"...

Since when did artists and TD's become completely separate things?[...] They're obviously not necessarily two separate things. There's a spectrum and one can reside at one extremity or another but there's a lot more in between therefore it is there most people are standing on. [...]To me what's mis...
