Re: Learning Houdini...
Hello! So I'm not alone. I got the impression that most Si-Community people where trying out Houdini and giving up after using the modelling tools. 8-x I've been trying to learn Houdini myself with mixed results. It's hard to find the time while using Softimage most of the time for work. I go for we...

Re: exit Softimage Creatives
Very sad but entirely understandable.
A final farewell meeting might have been a nice idea but I guess that would probably turn into a long depressing wake rather than a celebration of what came before.

In my very limited experience I would say Arnold is the nearest equivalent to Mantra PBR.Hirazi Blue wrote:One thing that has always remained unclear to me, is where Mantra actually "stands"

Not available to Apprentice or Indie users though.Rork wrote:wow! very cool!
If one is to start using H14, there's some really nice renderers to choose from, in addition to Mantra

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
Maybe UI was the wrong thing to say. It's mostly modelling and manipulation improvements. There's even a Softimage style project maker. The overall layout is still very much Houdini though, which isn't a bad thing once you learn your way around.

There have been some big UI improvements. Trust me, it's all good.MauricioPC wrote:Rork wrote:some momentum for softimage users..... <badum tshh> ;-P

I only have anecdotal personal experience to go on but 8.1 pro works fine with Si 2015 for me.

Re: Let me be the first
Nice to see this sub forum here. Lets hope it becomes a good place to share information (I've never liked mailing lists). I think I read somewhere that the release of Fabric Engine 2.0 is planned for this month. My fingers are crossed.

Re: Where is the community?
@ Pooby: I have very high hopes for Fabric 2.0 also. The mind boggles at it's potential. I just worry about the time scale of it's development. I have jumped into Houdini in a big way in order to stay employable. I think it's amazing what they are doing but I simply can't take the chance waiting for...

Re: Where is the community?
I don't post much. I never have. But I have always been a lurker. I check in here most days to keep tabs on things and see what people are up to. To be honest I always found the non Softimage topics the most interesting (even when Softimage was still alive and kicking). Is the post count really that...

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
The most fascinating to me is that Side Effects still sells "Houdini" (stripped of all the particle and dynamics stuff, which you get when you buy "Houdini FX"), while most of the "shortcomings" of the product would be most evident in this simplified package and one wo...

Since when did artists and TD's become completely separate things? That really is sad.

Re: Houdini14 Sneak Peek
All the new simulation and crowd additions are all very cool but for me the UI improvements are crucial.
Can't wait to give it a spin.
