Re: Autodesk won't License both 'Maya with Softimage'

if you really have bought "Softimage with Maya" (and not upgraded to a collection something else), then Softimage 2017 with Maya is product key 977I1 . I cannot recall if the license they generate just works or requires manual intervention to add some Softimage 2015 license token to it. It...

Re: "LAN-Network" over Internet

with its WebDAV support your windows explorer can use remove cloud-based drive like it's a local one. What you need a WebDAV server on the other end.
you could also start a ftp server on that remote machine, vpn to it and browser it/upload files with windows explorer.

Re: Open source Softimage!

we would never have Chrome, and the Iphone would have had a terrible web browser if everyone told the guy who made Khtml to just make a better toolbar for Mozilla instead

Re: Open source Softimage!

to make the project more interesting to more people, I'd dump whatever scene graph you have in moonlight and just start from scratch on top of Pixar USD and OSD (http://graphics.pixar.com/usd/docs/index.html)

Re: Open source Softimage!

Trying to make Blender into Softimage will never work imho. There's too many differences. Right. And although it the code looks cool and it would be hard to resist, I wouldn't get into trying to turn "moonlight designer" into an XSI either. From what I can see, a lot that code is being sp...

Re: Open source Softimage!

it's nice to get more information about Moonlight Creator. I have been wondering what happened about that one for 20 years. From the source code, the project was lot more extensive than I imagined it would be. I also made these types of formative projects as well back in the 1990s. The code structur...

Re: Trouble installing SI 2015

As far as I'm aware, you're always able to re-install windows. PCs normally do not ship with intall disk, but has a software to make your recovery disk/usb key. Which version of windows is this? Try running installer as administrator, btw. The advice on the web about MSVC Runtime issues is almost al...

Re: Why Comodore failed

As you may recall, Avid was long gone by then. Lagoa is Softimage 2011 and ICE Modelling is Softimage 2012, years after the Autodesk acquisition.

Re: Why Comodore failed

I think Softimage Co. was pretty well run, the thing I had an issue with is that they were thinking that their salvation was in games, they wanted to go into game middleware and even tried to buy a game engine towards the end at Avid. Autodesk had the same idea and only gave it up last year, after 1...

Re: Unreal Studio, Marc Petit

I'm all for bashing Marc Petit, but what are you talking about ? Big ArchViz firms have been using game engine for years, and I would have the humility to think Motiva, the realtime viz company that develops the plugin, and Epic, knows their stuff.

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Ton mentioned Softimage explicitly in another video interview, during a developer recruitment announcement. He'd love devs from Si. He considers it the best 3D software to have been developed. He said it was a shame Autodesk shut it down. I'll grab that vid too. I don't know; wasn't there a lot of ...

Re: Standalone SI help please

well if you don't active it, it will definitely stop working, so why not activate it?
I think the education licenses of softimage are still available. Autodesk edu support would know.
but yes, it's a ticking time bomb. Every year renewal can be the last one.

Re: wiki info on Ice

The wiki just has a copy of the official doc. The same one you get by pressing F1 in Softimage.

Autodesk should have deleted it from the wiki so that google doesn't keep indexing it and have it come up above the real doc. I guess google gives wikis higher page ranks.
