Re: ICE return as standalone ?
This is what the blog on The Area actually says: We are exploring building procedural environment layout capabilities based on Bifröst to provide out of the box workflows (Bifrost is our procedural engine used in 3ds Max and Maya) this just means they are thinking about making a scatter tool that's ...

Re: Where can you still buy Softimage?
Animation Master WAS what I was using, before I decided to try softimage, because it looked easier, like Max, to learn and figure out :). But that was back in 2005/6 when I had A LOT more patience... If it wasn't clear, the point was that the guy (who is also working on a fan film) has been stuck i...

Re: Tyflow - how difficult can it be?
what do you mean when you wrote "how difficult can it be?"
If you mean the development, the original particleflow was also made by just one guy, Oleg Bayborodin. There are lot of one people projects.

Re: Redshift got boughth by Maxon
sad but perhaps inevitable, with Autodesk having Anorld GPU in beta. Newtek was also acquired last week, and before that The Foundry was tossed around. I think it must be the shopping season. (it often precedes a stock market crash, unfortunately) It wouldn't surprise me to see Avid and VRay getting...

Re: Can you remove clusters with Object Model? (not using "Application"")
It's just style, whatever you do is going to call the same code anyway that the deleteobj command runs. you can speed things up by turning off undo, that's all

Re: Where can you still buy Softimage?
I saw this related story the other day, a guy that's been hanging on to his 32-bit mac copy of Hash Animation Master to make his animated shorts, by fear of having to learn something else. https://fanfilmfactor.com/2019/04/02/bad-news-turns-into-good-news-for-stalled-trek/ now he's rendering real-ti...

Re: Softimage ice & Houdini
ICE was developed for deformations for character animation, and secondarily for particles and dynamics. The tech of point locators is all about interpolating parameters on surfaces and not merely animating particle points.

Re: low-cost 3D software (alternatives to Blender?)
read this wikipage on the history of Carrara.. it's scary how metacreation ended up screwing the consumer 3D. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrara_(software) An ex employee also bought Mirai from its parent, and that ended up not going anywhere. Also interesting, Electric image https://en.wikipedia...

Re: low-cost 3D software (alternatives to Blender?)
The UI of blender may not be great, but the UI of these 99$-500$ products isn't so great nowadays either, plus the rendering is obsolete. I'm always surprised by how many software Daz3D managed to buy and bury. I had my hopes on Carrara. Anyway, your question I think is unanswerable, because I think...
