Normal Map from Zbrush to XSI - How?
Hi, Does anyone here know how to create a normal map in ZBrush 4 that can be imported into XSI/Softimage and will render "correctly" with mental ray? I have asking all over the place for help in trying to find out how to create normal maps within ZBrush 4 that can be used with XSI/softimag...

Yes, have to agree...the AD site is an awful mess and an exercise in frustration for the end user.

Re: 2011SAP + 2011SP1 Hotfix 1
I just tried it and after the second try I was able to reload the hotfix. (The first try gave me a valid archive, but only containing the Linux-files 8-} ) I am not sure, however, how location dependent the Subscription Center is. As you probably won't be able to reach anyone at Softimage HQ today,...

Re: 2011SAP + 2011SP1 Hotfix 1
Hello Chaps, So where did the SAP hotfix go? I visited the subscription center last night and it told me that it was unavailable due to site maintenance. I tried again this morning and now it tells me that the file has been moved, removed, or unavailable. So this begs the question...where exactly do...

Re: Softimage and good skin renders
We have a project in development that will require alot of skin shading and we love xsi. However it seems to be lacking in the area of skin shading compared to maya and max as far an mental ray rendering goes. Although its the same renderer which is weird imo. I am basing this on results i have see...

Re: Softimage and good skin renders
I can think of many good examples of human skin created and rendered in XSI over at least the past 5 or 6 years. Most of them were posted on xsibase although it's unlikely that many of the images would still be available now, not to mention the fact that searching for anything on xsibase is pretty m...

Re: Face Robot Animation
Great, thanks for the feedback. The eyes seem to be my biggest issue. There was a recent post on CG Talk about the eyes being the most important feature when it comes to realism. I still don't have the shader correct. And, I still have yet to find a good setup for the reflections etc. I have a few ...

Re: Face Robot Animation
Nice job! The further down the road to realism you travel the more difficult the task becomes, so I think you've done a excellent job...this isn't easy. I have to agree, I find the eye blinks perhaps too noticeable. I think they might benefit from being a bit not so "in your face" so to sp...

Re: Autodesk blocked development of third party XSI plugins
Joe, My conclusion was that he said: "Autodesk stepped in and now we are at a stop". And that was 3 years ago. BEFORE the acquisition. So in plain and simple terms: A competitor stepped in and a 3rd party plugin being made for a competitor (Softimage) was stopped. Now the conclusion I jum...

Re: Autodesk blocked development of third party XSI plugins
i asked them time ago about final render for softimage and i got the same answer, seems like AD didnt want to help them port it. can be bullshit or not, but it is kinda weird to me since they first admit they would like to port into SI, so well something is really wrong here. Once again, pretty vag...

Re: Autodesk blocked development of third party XSI plugins
I'm sorry, but I have to say that I think the OP is jumping to a lot of conclusions, where does the developer ever say that they were "blocked"? The answer is of course nowhere. They could have stopped development for a lot of reasons, perhaps they need to liaise with new people at Autodes...

well there is no point in arguing s letter box still hosts other tuts. but if i recall correctly, these dvds from 3d tutorial had a big announcement on the base and your blog that they were being "given" away free. no guidelines given when you gave them away; in fact the community was enc...
