Re: NextGen movie - all Blender?

AD: "Greed is good..." ;P

Mathaeus: Thanks for the link! I haven't tried anything major in Blender yet, so I have no clue about animating in Blender. In Maya it's well thought out by now, with a lot of tools for moving data around. That's one of the reasons it's used everywhere.

So... free advertising for a free 3D app ;)

Impressive work, would love to see their workflows and in-house tools.

NextGen movie - all Blender?

Did someone see the trailer yet for the NetFlix CG movie?

Apparently done at Tangent Animation: http://www.tangent-animation.ca/, and was all done in Blender?
If so, that quite impressive.

Re: Future of Render?

Very nice! :)

Not having to bake out lighting will be a massive time saver, especially for larger archviz projects.
Very curious to see where this will be going in the next few years, when the technology becomes affordable enough.

Re: Future of Render?

No idea on the other capabilities, but the reviews are rolling out now on the web.
We'll have to wait and see what is going on after the digital dust settles I guess...

Re: Blender Benchmark

An older 8 core i7 3960K + GTX970. Still plenty fast for what I'm doing atm. Clocked the full benchmark yesterday at two hours, one minute and 13 seconds. I still feel that rendering in Blender can be sped up a lot, as it is not as fast as the competitors. But it's free ;) Looking at other benchmark...

Re: Blender Benchmark

Did a quick test, and on the BMW scene my CPU renders as fast as my GPU :D

No surprise the new AMD 32 core CPU's are fastest, but looking at the raw power involved, it's not a massive jump in power per core.

It will be nice to see how one's PC compares :)

Re: Future of Render?

Impressive tech, although still a bit expensive....

But looking forward to real time raytrace rendering in game engines :)

Re: particles age

it's been a while, but I would say states?
So a new state that kill the flying particles but not the ones that collided with something?

could be wrong though, it has been a long time since I last looked at ICE :(

Re: PS3/PS4 Game using SOFTIMAGE

This makes my old XSI heart beat a little faster :)

Nicely done, and great videos!!!! Thanks for the headsup, looks like a fun game to play.

Kudos to all involved :)

Q: So the COSMOFORM engine is a in-house build? What made you decide to do that, instead of going for Unity or Unreal?

cheers,

Re: Cinema 4D R20 announced

Good and they are the only DCC with matchmoving, tracking - but i feel they are going too slow. At least one of my pet peaves - deleting polygons but letting their point remain seems to have been brought to XXI century and we can now have Softimage behavior, delete the polygon and be done... Blende...

Re: Cinema 4D R20 announced

They're nice updates, but I hope they picked up on multi threading and a more robust scene/RAM management system. When stuff gets more complex, it' ca get sluggish very quickly. And despite the more steep learning curve of Houdini, I would still move to H for most of the stuff shown. More flexibilit...

Re: My softimage theme for Blender 2.7 (2.8 will be available soon too)

Anyone that can program, and is willing to push certain areas in Blender to more user friendly (read SI) workflow, be so kind to contact the Blender Institute. There's still so much areas that need some cleanup, or just that slight nudge to get it to work more logical. Some of it is small stuff, lik...
