Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

what they are doing with interaction now, for me it's looking exactly like Maya style of combining the tools and not exposing the important tools to live alone. What do you mean by that? I don´t understand...can you give an example? I´m not working with blender right now, just trying to keep an eye...

That probably *is* good for division of labor in big studios, where modeler is only modeler and so on, but it's horrible over-complication ...

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Well OK, all in all it's progress. Anyway I think they shouldn't be so harsh to hardcore users (I don't count myself as Blender hardcore user). In open source like Blender, it's not easy to define who actually is ''user'', and I'm afraid there's still a small number of those who use it everyday for ...

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Now Grab tool (like Max ''select and move'' or good old XSI ''move point'' tool) is not working in left-click mode........ :D Except, if I'm correct it works only in some f.....ed Mayanish style, hold this after activating that. Ironically, in previous versions it was possible to get the usable Grab...

Just one comment from YouTube thread:
''How painful was this for Ton to let go?'' :)

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Precisely about key-map, they saying that they are still working (that's how I understand ''being completed'') on left-click select system that works with new tool system. Now I don't know is this something completely new, or old sequence of exceptions performed after hard-coded right-click select. ...

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

2.8 GUI fits nicely here, generally, it seems they managed to avoid the need for floating windows, or too much of window switching, on something like 'more than HD' single screen, for a ''bit of everything in same time'' 3d generalist tasks. While a good number of features is not rewired yet, let's ...

Re: Blender 2.8 Industry standard keymap

I'd be happy with ability to easy transfer the custom key map from old to new version - while some alphas of 2.8 already worked in that way, now I'm not sure is it a new feature or these alphas just used the old key map, somehow. In any case, great to see that everyone in Blender world, community an...

Re: Houdini 17

About motion graphics in Houdini, if you don't have a time but you do have some kind of influence, perhaps is good idea to present your list of typical tasks to authors of MOPs . MOPs is one of rare specialized solutions for H. One huuuuge problem of Houdini is almost non existent audience of end u...

Re: Houdini 17

I just don't have the time, I am already too busy. I think there's only two things in other apps, possible to figure out in few hours, looking only from SI experiance: Maya Graph Editor and Maya Time Editor (our AE and AnimMixer), of course with a bit of forgiveness. About motion graphics in Houdin...

Re: Houdini 17

Are these critical opinions of Houdini coming from actual Houdini users, I am still using Softimage exclusively but I am thinking about the next package I am going to use. In my case it's coming from at least 1K hours. maybe much more with Houdini since v13 from 2014, one of results is this thing ,...

Re: Houdini 17

As a matter of fact, I don't know for any simulation solver in Houdini that's faster than in some other app, while good number of them are significantly (many times) slower, like current cloth or wire. New Vellum thing looks promising, but I don't believe it will be anywhere as fast as nVidia Flex. ...

Re: Houdini 17

... (suite) I think the big difference with ICE is the data flow through the entire geometry, id/points/polygons/edges/uvs/groups(clusters)/xforms(instances) so a lot, you can't imagine having out port referencing all thoses. The positive point compared to ICE is you never end with the fucking cont...

Re: Houdini 17

Is Blender cloth native or is part of one FEM addon? It is built-in cloth. I think it's spring-based, at least it behaves like that. If I'm correct, Syflex is also spring-based. There's nothing special with Blender cloth, can't do tearing and such. On positive side, it's relative easy to get believ...

Re: Houdini 17

I saw this in the Blender Artists forum, this is some incredible next level type of ability. Now I should admit that few months ago I was exercising the transfers of cloth and soft body sims from Blender to Houdini :). Blender cloth was just a several times faster and easier to tweak, than Houdini ...

Re: NextGen movie - all Blender?

It seems there are some precise answers on Blender artists thread . Honestly I have mixed feelings here, personally I wouldn't be happy (politely to say) to animate in Blender instead of Maya, even when considering in house additions. Maya is just a way stronger app. While use of open source rendere...
