Re: Fabric Engine EOL

well, from what Draise wrote you can decide if it was meant to be a gamechanger. I think it was, on paper. But when even Pooby (being so productive with ICE) couldn't adapt it to his pipeline proves that FE creators took the wrong route at some point. I don't think they necessarily took the wrong r...

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

It feels very sad, (if you assume it's the end of Fabric) I have been a big fan of Fabric pretty much from the outset, as, on paper, it felt like it had been designed to solve all my woes. I made a few test tools with it, but always encountered frustration, seeing how powerful it was but not managin...

Re: How to constraint stack of plates to fold open

you could use 2d IK chains parented to nulls that are distributed between 2 Nulls. (one at each end)

Re: Collodi - New Animation Software

I don't see it as a particular necessity to be honest. I know some places experimented with that in the 90s but I think it got abandoned over the years because posing the character in software is the least of your worries when animating. As for Stop motion. What it does do is force you to plan. I us...

Re: Collodi - New Animation Software

Imho future is mocap, regardless we like it or not. I came from a traditional animation background in Stop motion at Aardman animations, back in the day when Pixar were hiring all the stop motion animators they could find. I turned down their offer as at the time I had no interest in CGI. A few yea...

Re: Mesh cut through

Oh sorry that must have referenced my own compounds. You just need to get point position to fill in the missing connections.

So getdata. Pointpositions. And plug into the yellow connector/s on the right
(Which is the Multiply node on the first and 'array average' on the second)

Re: Mesh cut through

Try this compound (add the ICE tree to a null).. First object is the Subdivided grid to cut and second is the object shape to cut. It works on the y plane and its not perfect but might give you a starting point

Re: Access Instance Object Attributes

as a Highly inefficient workaround, you can cache the object, duplicate it multiple times, and offset the cache on each one to make a bunch of animated meshes with different start times. Then put those in a group and ICE instance the group. Effectively then you can swap between them on your ice tree...

Re: Artifical Inteligence and ICE?

I have been theorising making a simple 'brain' in ICE, which uses 'neural' connections between 'information' particles to process solutions to problems. However, I haven't actually tried it because I fear it would take a long time to get any useful results. Back to the Zombie thing I did. I think yo...

Re: Finally used Maya and here are my initial thoughts.

It's not the annoyance that in Maya I have to use joints to skin to rather than nulls etc. I could live with that. I don't rely on skinning in the traditional sense. It's the fact I can't make my own deformers and skin / anatomy simulation systems. I have a ton of ICE based R and D in skin rolling, ...

Re: Finally used Maya and here are my initial thoughts.

cheers. I'd not use Maya for characters. The fact that it expects you to use just Bones and Blendshapes is the main reason I found it rather depressing. Its like taking a trip back to my Lightwave days. My character work relies on custom ICE defomation for skin effects. Maya has no way of replicatin...
