Re: Introduction to rigging xsi

These days the UI of Blender is becoming a lot more standard with most 3D software, so learning it won't be a big issue. I'll soon upload riggin in SI. ;) hey. could you herald me, there's something i don't get: are people sometimes using different softwares for a same movie? i have tried to fbx a ...

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3

Ah... Like that. I have to admit I just scanned the text on Operators at the time. Yeah, I can imagine it would be quite a bit of work to implement in Softimage, as with 3dsMax the node editor in SI can only access materials and not objects directly afaik. After looking at the docs again, I could im...

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3

Haven't looked at Operators properly, but from what I can recall it felt like SI/MR overrides on groups to me.
But I could be wrong though ;)

p.s. the beta runs fine so far :)

Re: SItoA_Update_Core 5.1.1.0_& Cryptomatte V 2.0.0b3

@Jenus: Installed the beta, and so far no issues yet. Will test it a bit more thorough in the next days. @nicole: Mental Ray is free with Softimage, Arnold is not. If you cannot, or don't want to pay for Arnold it is Mental Ray as a default renderer for you ;) Painter has most renderers covered, met...

Re: Autodesk announces cooperation with Unity

I've used both, and I have to admit I do like the latest versions of Unity. Both apps have their strengths and weaknesses, and I guess it all depends on what kind of things you want to do with it. For small interactive applications, demo's an alike I would choose Unity, for large games I would choos...

Re: Autodesk announces cooperation with Unity

AD & Unity are going after Unreal Studio ;)

I rather would stay away from anything AD though. Rather go with Blender and B2U for Uity work .....

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Blender 2.8 is getting better and better, and more easy to use. I see some grumbling of old users on the forums, but for Blender as a whole the development has been stellar and is picking up new users left and right. The Softimage based Theme for Blender 2.8 looks awesome, and will please a lot of p...

Re: Random Thoughts - SoftImage edition

Isn't a 'student version' not the same as a 'educational' version? Just asking, as I never used SI in that way.... And yes, learning something new, especially something complex like a 3D application can be quite time consuming. Don't expect anything from AD regarding Softimage, it's being buried a l...

Re: Houdini 17

I do a lot of character animation which is why I am so reluctant to switch to anything. I would like to add some special effects stuff in addition, fire, smoke, basic collision type stuff, nothing too complicated. I am finding that I have more and more trouble keeping my Momentum license working. I...

Re: crease tool in softimage

Docs can be found here: http://docs.autodesk.com/SI/2015/ENU/#!/url=./files/subdivs_MakingCreasesandSpikes.htm The crease tool in SI has more options than in Maya, where you cannot dial in the amount of crease on a edge or point (selection). Just wondering, why are you learning SI? The software is b...

Re: SiSidebar

I did a Maya project recently, and ended up with a combination of the BonusTools Weight Editor (poor man's SI WE clone) and NGSkinTools. Worked well enough after the initial growing pains. I had no time to dive into this version of a Maya Weight Editor, but it looks great. Also the side panel looks ...
