Re: Introduction to rigging xsi
A lot of movies get made with multiple different softwares, but rigs are rarely transferred. Most of the time they will use something like alembic to transfer mesh data across DCCs.

Re: Introduction to rigging xsi
Don't waste your time learning softimage in depth now. Its still a great package, but has no future, and almost no present any longer, especially not in studios. The community is shrinking, so you'll find it harder to get help and plugins/resources are dying off. Take a look at blender/houdini inste...

Amazing work Paul! Thought I recognised that actor.
I'd love to see a breakdown of some of those cg creatures in more detail, that's a hell of a lot of work for a one man army!

You could try some kind of rigid body simulation to attract them together while respecting collisions?

Re: Can ICE strands have motion blur in Redshift?
Hi Paul, ice strands can be motion blurred just fine (as long as no bugs were introduced recently!) - all you should need to do is define pointvelocity and strandvelocity as attributes. Some more info from the RS forums: 1) Compute the velocities “manually” in ICE by querying the PointPosition/Stran...

Re: Houdini 17
There's a new patch out yesterday or today for blender cloth, haven't had a chance to try it out yet. with that and the new Houdini cloth in 17 i think we finally have some decent alternatives to syflex/ncloth.

Really excited about the gaming variants which are coming soon too.
That tech demo from chaos is pig ugly though!
Purpose built ray tracing cores in a consumer scale device is a dream for rendering.

Re: Redshift - Hair on ICE istances seems not rendering
A redshift proxy is scene or model data which has been written to disk, and can then be loaded onto a null or simple object inside the scene, which then gets read at rendertime. You can then scatter it using ice, best way, especially if you need time shifting, is to use this script and tutorial: htt...

Re: Redshift - Hair on ICE istances seems not rendering
Redshift can't deal with nested pointclouds
Only way really is to combine it all into one cloud, or you could create a proxy from the original which you could scatter with ice.

Re: Softimage to Bforartists
Can't help but feel for the guy as blender's interface has sucked for so long, then as soon as he's done with 1.0 of bforartists they get their act together to completely revamp the main interface.

missing basic ice compounds
Bit of a strange one, some of my basic building block ice compounds are missing - anyone know how I could get them back, have a lot of plugin installs and don't really want to completely re-install if I can help it. Missing get data, switch context... that I know of so far. Edit - soft 2015 sp2 r2, ...
