Re: Softimage 2014
As a person who has taught both Maya and SI to students, SI is definitely much easier, and intuitive for people to get to grips with. Once you master the fundamentals you should be able to use any 3D app after a small adjustment period. Even if the development of SI stopped today its feature set is...

Re: Saving Softimage (Campaign 2013)
I wasn't saying anyone was doing that. Chris asks if people should maybe tone down the negative reaction to the latest release. That would be dishonesty. Fanboyism. There's a huge gap between toning down the ranting and fanboyism. We are on a really nice ship, cruising the ocean. Cool people, not t...

Re: Saving Softimage (Campaign 2013)
Alright, i'll be the one to rain on your parade.... You think Soft's problem is lack of community enthusiasm? You got it wrong, i'm afraid. From what I've been reading around these forums lately he's precisely right. All the bickering and whining and doomsday talk among Softimage users is dreadful....

Re: Manipulating Pivot Point of polygons with ICE
yes, So let´s say i have 1 cube. Normally the pointposition of every polygon is in the center of that polygon. but in order to flip all polygons ´dynamically' i first need to find a way to move the pivot point (or rotation point) from the centre to an edge of that polygon. (not manually but with ic...

Re: User Guide Softimage 2014 online
I am curios, what is exactly what makes XSI polymodeling toolset superior to Maya one? It's been four years since I used Maya for modeling, and I only really remember being flabbergasted at how much more convoluted the entire workflow is. Do they have a move point tool yet? That alone is a killer f...

Re: Spoiler Alert: NO SPOILERS ANYMORE
For example lets call it a time frequency node could be applied to an emitter to emit particles at a certain frequency and also say a deformer to make waves in a mesh. It is my opinion that ICE should strive for nodes with broadest application possible. ICE is built exactly like that :-) Example: h...

Re: Instances and original file SRT
But i think i just fixed it with freeze all transforms + move center to bounding box in the meshes. It seems your imported object had transformations "baked into" its geometry (i.e. the center of the object was not in the center of the mesh). By resetting the center to the mesh's bounding...

Re: Instances and original file SRT
Got some files(FBX) from another software and the mesh position, scale, rotation is okay in Softimage. But when i turn them into ICE instances the SRT is all messed up. Any idea of what to look for and fix? Can you give more info? Do the meshes have a hierarchy? Their SRT values are 1,1,1 - 0,0,0 - 0...

Re: Spoiler Alert: NO SPOILERS ANYMORE
Not as Lego pieces with a design for universal nodes that can be used in 99% of situations but instead it has several nodes that only work in some circumstances. This is what kills ICE for most people. You need to sleep with ICE to get build something useful from it. How exactly would that work? Ca...

Re: Spoiler Alert: NO SPOILERS ANYMORE
especially the render region is outdated like hell. Why do SI users always exaggerate so much? Do we have such high standards? When I have 3ds max and Maya colleagues over and they see me drag up a render region they're always impressed by how cool it is. I use it every day and still love it. Your ...

Re: ICE : get kine global position at a specific frame
it's ok for the "add point" but if i try to retrieve the position of an object at a specific frame it doesn't work whatever it's "equal" or "greater than or equal to". in case of "equal", the position is only evaluated at the specific frame, but the value &qu...

Re: ICE : get kine global position at a specific frame
it seems to not keep the value once go past the frame. I just wanted to avoid animate by hand, but it works in this way, so... You'll have to use "greater than or equal to" if you're in a non-simulated tree. So that the Add Point is always evaluated when the frame has been reached. Using ...

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
i might be wrong but multi-editing attribute pages (err property pages?) isn't doable? they resort to the spreadsheet view? that's right, they don't have this great XSI UI feature.. the Channel Box supports does multi-edit however. The multi editing in SI is so great because it works with practical...

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
I'd like to see a thread about what could be changed in Maya to make better for a Softimage user's point of view.. I mean if you have to bite the bullet some day and switch.. If you rewrite Maya to a point where only the timeline and Paint FX remain I might consider. But really, if SI goes down the...

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
Last time someone tried tight integration and planning far ahead was ICE and look what that lead to. It lead to a unified system that's extendable, makes sense and could eventually branch out into every corner of the software. I've never even touched Crowd FX - but I know the basics of ICE, so I'm ...

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
I have no problem with nodes. But they need to make sense and not hit some context idiocy every time. Users should only need a node/attribute called lets say "polygon operations" to make every operation at polygon level. Context issues are a waste of time , money and brain power that inst...
