Re: Cutting on curved polymesh?!

Its because you added additional edgeloops, thats why I said plan ahead ;) You can try to subdiv mesh once more then make hole, or dont do full edge loop and live with small imperfections...

Re: Cutting on curved polymesh?!

welcome to subdee hell ;) One trick which I use very often is to shrinkwrap your shape (flat cylinder/rectangle etc) onto target surface. Then either merge both and manually delete/reconnect quads or use this surface as guide when moving points around. Sometimes Its much easier to work on flat surfa...

Re: Particles Effects with Entertainment Creation Suite Video?

I think there was similiar discussion some time ago...involving maths, rockets science and ICE.
Then devs added this topmenu called ICE with preset compounds so it was a matter of few clicks to emulate old particles (i think... i never used it)

Re: Particles Effects with Entertainment Creation Suite Video?

Ahh ure THE artist :) turbulence wind + kraktoa = instant win But how many scripts to get simple effects had you wrote before they bought box#3 from milk cowing pflow developer? Do you think Data op is more friendly to artist than ice? http://www.scriptspot.com/bobo/mxs5/pflow/pflow__inherit_UV.htm ...

Re: UV Unwrapping

Yeah I haven't used Softimage for a couple of years, I would have killed for the unfold feature back then. I tried Headus but I found the Interface and controls a nightmare! Headus is great..but its the only software I know that _forces_ you to learn keyboard shortcuts otherwise you cant do shit :)

Re: Distortion in the uv when subdividing

If you uncheck smooth when subdiv it will use linear uv interpolation so UVs will just be divided not smoothed at all.
One option that is missing in xsi is a border smoothing option...

Re: Some news from Siggraph

Beware of jumping too fast. Anyway i wouldn't trust Autodesk at all with anything. Combustion ditched, that Tox thing etc. If they go for Maya only i'll look elsewhere. I'm not jumping anywhere, I most of time don't pay for software, only use what my emplorer have. I would never buy maya for my own...

Re: Some news from Siggraph

I have a question for those who use maya also... are opensubdivsfully supported now? Do you guys have some good article on transition from max/softimage to maya? Can you bind S as navigation? Are the particles procedural with nodes like SI? are there sticky keys? I think you forgot to ask: Can we g...
