Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?

Really nice one, it seems nothing in this movie is created 'just to be created'. Every part seems to be re - considered few times, before final decision. I'd believe they spent a good time to get that movement of octopus. But.... if intention is to prove something about 3d app, imho this is somehow...

Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?

Like in "Spongebob"...? ; p
Come on, that's a cartoon... And that part has nothing to do with the tools used.

Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?

True, they are rather self-confident when it comes to pricing.
Here's one of the advantages of being a student (again)...

Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?

Maybe... however, did you check out C4D's character tools? Not bad at all, too, at least what I can tell yet. There's a flexible rig-creation tool, similar to 3ds Max' CAT. It has an "animation mixer" (the "motion mode" of the timeline panel). You've got cloth, you've got hair......

Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?

Hi! Been a while... Interesting to see how diverse likes and opinions are. I for my part wanted to move on quickly, and stopped using XSI. I can see it's EOL as a good thing now, because it forced me to drop my quite dogmatic view, and learn other stuff, plenty of it. For my needs C4D turned out to ...

Re: Modo 801 Release

A wide step forward. Nonetheless, the utter lack of modeling proceduralism still makes it unattractive for me. Sadly.
Curious about Maxon's next move now (in a few months). This is going to be quite a competition...

Re: Migration to maya/max = turn the other cheek

I hear you. I once poked into a nest of Maya guys a few years ago, suggesting, well, Softimage, but it was like talking to the hand.

Edit: on hindsight, they maybe spared themselves some trouble... lucky for them.

Re: Migration to maya/max = turn the other cheek

I start to wonder what still justifies the 'industry standard' status of Max and Maya. Is everybody so happy with them? Autodesk fans, wave! They must be doing something right after all, to stay on the throne for so long, especially since everybody I know seems to be grumpy about them. There must be...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Luxology are interesting, they regularly serve up dreadfully buggy software yet have an excellent two way relationship with their customers and they most certainly get a shellacking on their forum but they never close threads and their customers love them. Peebler is an excellent ambassador, Maxon ...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Very restrained Marketing we have. ... Softimage did have almost none at all in the AD era, for that matter. Very unwise not to, because advertising is a necessity, and Maxon could need some more development money, I'd reckon. Btw, if you guys have beta access, by all means, give them the boot to g...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Maxon are recruiting developers if you know of any SI developers get them to apply! None that are (yet) available I guess... =p Talking about developers: I'm none, but I liked writing a plugin or two for Softimage. Wouldn't mind to 'bless' C4D with some stuff, too, if it made sense. I already stuck...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Quo vadis, Cinema4D... I don't mean specific roadmap details, but the whole concept - is it meant to be a 'casual' 3D program for the masses, or do they want it to become more 'high-endish', a studio backbone and platform? All of this? There are many good approaches, but as a whole, C4D seems to be ...

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Maybe it's possible to convert polygon tools to MoXYZ tools over time.

There was something similar going on in 3ds max years ago, when tools embedded into EditPoly were one by one 'broken out' into separate modifiers.

Re: why not cinema 4d?

Thanks for the verbose answer, Günter, that indeed clears up some things! The joker is this remark: "the "moextrude" is an exception here as Srek already pointed out as it generates new geometry" That's what I addressed with my SDK question. It's obviously possible to develop par...
