Re: Autodesk to lay off a further 13% of its workforce

This could be just another sorry attempt at increasing profits. Don't get me wrong, I'm a pro free-market capitalist, so I don't dis the chase for profit, just the approach of some companies to achieving it. If the layoffs consist of developers, it's going to be their downfall. Otherwise, if it's "e...

Re: Some of my new work :)

Very realistic cool looking images. Did you come up with the interior design too or it is the client's?

Re: Vitaly Bulgarov Live & Uncut: Designing for Films, Games & Real-World Robotics

Yes, his attitude towards work and accomplishment is definitely one of a winner. Also, notice the non-BS clear think and by contrast, the pervasive sheep-think "software doesn't matter, it's the artist" the other guy has espoused. This kind of relativism is not at all surprising considering the othe...

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

Yeah, things do change at a fast pace in Houdini, which has an obvious upside: advancement. It's indeed an issue when many, if not most, learning materials are referring to obsolete methods and tools, but SESI is deprecating lost of stuff as of late while maintaining some backwards compatibility for...

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

Also, Often when I asked questions on their forum, I was met with 'code-snobbery' from other users (not the Developers, I should mention) who thought that I should learn to code not mess about with nodes. That was quite offputting. You'll find the same position/recommendation in Houdini's community...

Re: The return of Mudbox?

@Bellsey I haven't played with Mudbox in ages. Like 5 yrs if not more. Probably more. Even then, I remember how the graphics card was essential. I'll look to see if there's still a trial version to see what's changed. I agree with whatever pluses you've mentioned here, but Zbrush does have lots of f...

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

The risk of investing in small products developed by small teams does not emerge only from the high probability of failure as a business, but from being bought out as well. Usually the original company loses its control over the direction of development or any other important decision regarding the ...

Re: The return of Mudbox?

But unlike Silo, Mudbox is owned by Autodesk which has the cash to make it a real solution (again) I, for one, would love to see it around Zbrush feature wise and with a faster viewport - it's GPU based I think. Given that one can save a .obj file for your sculpt and raster images for the textures, ...

Or maybe a "Fabric person" will chime in to put an end to the speculation. Let's hold hands and hope together :)

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

Certainly, introducing more criteria will yield a more accurate result regarding any approximation. Do you think that s/w industry fares better than startups in other industries when it comes to success rates? My intuition, which is of course not data, tells that it's quite possible that s/w startup...

Re: Fabric Engine EOL

Am I being cynical if I say this doesn't surprise me at all? Not that I'm happy about it or the fact that I fell like I'll have to pull a "I told you so", but I did express skepticism (in some forgotten thread) about investing time and money in such a small platform/company. It's always a gamble, bi...

Re: Update to phpBB 3.2.1

I haven't read all the 4 pages of this thread, so if this has been mentioned already, please just file it as "+1" regarding the issue: I'm a UHD user and I welcome the bigger font but dislike the fact that the text section (i.e. the forum itself w/o the top gallery) stretches the whole display, side...

Pretty cool! :)
I like that look of hefty metal, excavators and old tanks have.
