Re: Autodesk to lay off a further 13% of its workforce

There's some really nice scripts for Max that will export/import a whole scene setup into Unreal, including clones etc.
No need for Stingray imho..

But all jokes aside, interesting to see where this is going.....

Re: Autodesk to lay off a further 13% of its workforce

I honestly never understood why AD was trying to start up in the game engine business with Stingray.

So many (free) excellent options to choose from, with already deep integration with all 3D applications. And free.... Oh.. I already said that.. ;)

Re: Great work done with Softimage

Nice! :)

Love the books, and the show. There's some really nice VFX in there. And good to see trusty old Soft is still used in these places, even for shows this large. :-bd

Re: Autodesk to lay off a further 13% of its workforce

Haha.... True.

But only an handful of people would do so I guess. Just keep the licence(s) if you want to open up projects from earlier days ;)

Re: Autodesk to lay off a further 13% of its workforce

Not 3DSMax imho, as it still has more users than Maya. Mudbox just got a promise for new development (the future is bright...), so one could speculate on that one. But with all the losses over the last quarters, AD isn't really in a good spot. Trimming more fat might be just the second round here. L...

Re: Tachyon Render

Interesting too see how fast this is all evolving. I'm not sure if this will be a blessing, or a curse when this matures....... Yes, getting renders out faster is always great, but clients expecting to do changes until the last minute (even more than now already), because of these faster render time...

Re: Lagoa EOL

Despite the potential it had in SI, I don't think I ever used it on a project..... But like Fabric, this is just another application in the long list of 3D apps that were. And at some point 3DStudio Max, Maya, Modo, Lightwave, Cinema 4D etc. will go the same way. It's the nature of the software beas...

Re: The return of Mudbox?

Is it too late? Yes, I think so. As you say, ZBrush has become the 'standard' of 3D sketching/modeling/prototyping/<insert stuff>, and everything else will be measured against it. Even 3DCoat, which is very much up to spec imho, has a small userbase compared to ZBrush. For Autodesk to revive MB, the...

Re: Old XSI project not rendering properly.....

Hi, Thanks for your thoughts! A new pass with a new material will render, as with a new material override on the non-rendering pass itself. My theory atm is that the SI|3D subsystem was helping XSI 7 in rendering the converted nodes from SI|3D. But as later versions of (Softimage|)XSI were 64 bit, t...

Old XSI project not rendering properly.....

Hi all, I'm trying to render out a scene coming from XSI 7.0, in SI 2014. The main issue here is that the scene was imported from SI|3D (yes... that old) into XSI 7.0. Rendering works after import and converting the scene into a SI one. But opening the same scene in 2014 renders out completely black...

IMO Blender deserves to be standard, they managed to get very well balanced general 3d app. If not, perhaps we'll be tortured by some Adobe invention, or who knows what else.
Have no fear, Paint 3D is here... ;P

Re: Arnold 5 release

Nice!

I haven't tested Arnold 5 in XSI yet, only in <cough> Maya. I like the new PBR workflow, especially with Painter or Quixel it makes nice renders :)
Although in a lot of scenes RedShift is a lot faster still.
