Re: SItoA-7.2.2.0

What a great surprise. I thought we were fortunate to get a build based on the initial Arnold 7 core. But an update for Arnold 7.2 - this is a literal Christmas coming early moment. Many, many thanks for this. :)

Re: Advise on RedShift for XSI

The Alembic pipeline between Softimage and C4D is actually pretty solid. As long as you realise that you only to make simple materials in Softimage (Lamberts will do), all your selection sets (clusters) survive the journey and more importantly there are no normal-shading errors. I prefer Redshift in...

Re: Enhance_XSI on Softimage 2015?

Did anyone of you ever get the ancient Enhance_XSI addon to work under Softimage 2015? I have it working and it's useful for baking before rendering taking into Redshift/Arnold/Sycles. The one essential thing you have to do is remap the toolbars (they have a bad path cooked in), which is easy enoug...

It just keeps getting better and better. Surely one release at some point will be met with a chorus of boo's! :)

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?

Another question: 16GB or 32GB RAM? BUMP :-? If I'm totally honest, I think you need a minimum of 32Gb RAM these days, especially if simulations are part of your mix. In the independent Houdini artist space the question is most often 64 Gb or 128 Gb. I know RAM isn't as cheap as it once was, but yo...

Re: Cycles for Softimage

I hope, that all previous shader compounds are working with the latest version of the Sycles. Some shader nodes were updated, but these updates only add functionality (ports or parameters) without any removes. So, it should works. If you mean specially SToon shaders, then these shaders are osl-shad...

Re: Cycles for Softimage

sirdavid32 No plans for updating SToon addon. It should work. This addon is the port of the addon "Toonkit for Cycles" for Blender. As I understand, there are no any essential changes in that addon, so, nothing to update in SToon. Are all the .xsirtcompound's safe for use in your latest v...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?

In UK currency you're talking £350-450. Personally speaking I'd look towards Founders Edition models more than 'Extreme' models as they're less likely to have spent 3 years being over-driven. As I understand things the Sterling cost has a near one to one translation to Dollar in US markets (tech pro...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?

Thanks. I haven't yet found any reasonably priced, trustworthy offers for a used 1080ti, but that's something I could indeed add later... I know somebody with 8 1080 Ti's ready to put on eBay who's very trustworthy. Casey Hupke is a very well know C4D/Houdini artist with 8 ready to sell. You can co...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?

I sadly don't dare investing in refurbished goods... And in that case I would have to find someone who builds the system for me... Currently I am looking at the following system (which would set me back € 1,209.90) ASUS PRIME B450M-A / AMD RYZEN 5 3600X - 3,8GHz / Corsair Vengeance 16GB(3600Mhz) / ...

Re: SI 2015 help files?

I've just noticed that the online version of the Softimage 2015 help documentation does work with the Dark Reader addon for Chrome. It's also had it's javascript files updated and now runs far faster. Unfortunately, the fine folk at Autodesk haven't updated the downloadable 2015 documentation that y...

Re: Building a Softimage 2015 PC in 2020?

I have two main workstations, one running what was Autodesk Creative Suite 2015 (plus some earlier Soft revisions) and a newer Threadripper workstation. My Autodesk Creative Suite workstation is based on a dual XEON E5-2690 v2 (2014) and has 128 Gb Ram. The reason I bring this up is that there are s...

Re: SI 2015 help files?

Much as the 2015 help files are available for download. I advise that you download the 2014 help files instead as they actually provide better direct links to the correct page than the 2015 help files. More importantly, they're super fast to load (virtually as fast as the old school CHM help documen...

Re: Ice Performance in 2014 SP2 approx 20% better than 2015 SP2

I just remember I create this post back in last year... http://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7151&p=62236#p62236 There's a number of factors slowing that scenes performance but the most critical one is the viewport display. If you change your particle display to points...

Re: Ice Performance in 2014 SP2 approx 20% better than 2015 SP2

The downside of filming a benchmark is that the screen capture process itself degrades the performance so that's a no go. But it's easy enough to put a test together. Just think in terms of typical Krakatoa particle effects - ink drops, particle clouds, magical effects and such like. These are effec...
