Re: What are you working on?

For 2024 I'm planning on making a series of homages to sweet lookin title sequences of stuff I'm watching.

Kicking off with a GoT style flyby of Edinburgh Castle.

Re: Staying in touch...

Pop up the Discord link when you're all set Matteo. Thanks for the follow on IG. Do you wanna pop up your IG profile for others too? I remember seeing a backup .zip of the resources https://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?p=58564, though this seems to be up to 2016. It would be good to ...

Re: Staying in touch...

Discord, for sure, to keep in touch. I've been wondering about the best way to store a snapshot of the forum somewhere too?? If the URL redirected to a page that has the discord that would help funnel people towards the group so they don't lose connection. I'm going to pop my LinkedIn and IG here so...

Re: How to calculate Velocity of each vertex of any Polygon?

Yes I ran into an issue when I was putting it together and building an array with all the point data seemed to get it working. It was after midnight when I banged this ICE tree together so I can't remember the exact issues I had, but once I got it working I was happy enough to pop it into the forum ...

Re: How to calculate Velocity of each vertex of any Polygon?

So I tried it on a deforming mesh and the simulated ICE tree kills the deformation. So I've had to split off the ICE sim to a separate object to track the velocity of the source mesh vertices. This might be more what you are looking for. The velocity data is stored as an array called pointVelocityVa...

Re: How to calculate Velocity of each vertex of any Polygon?

https://i.imgur.com/KDR3hCW.jpg Here is a simulated ICE Tree that hopefully does what you are asking. I tested it on a spinning cube. You need to multiply the value by your FPS to get the velocity per second. For some reason getting the point position at previous frame doesn't give the position fro...

Re: Introducing "WavZ" Ocean/Water Toolkit - ( based on "Pedrito's" FlexToXsi )

This looks very cool. The ocean sims are very impressive and the other fluids demonstrated are convincing too. Incredible work!

Next time I need fluid sim I think this would be so useful to work with.

Re: EOL SI-COMMUNITY 2024

So, if I were to set up a Discord server or a Slack group for folks to join, is there a preference on platform? I personally use Slack every day so I would lean that way, but the floor is open.

Re: EOL SI-COMMUNITY 2024

Thanks for letting us know this far in advanced. You've done a stand up job looking after this forum and I'm sure contributing funds and time. I for one am very grateful. I like the idea of a discord and archiving what is here. If someone else wants to take on the forum that is great, but it is a co...

Re: What are you working on?

Just sharing a recent project that relied pretty heavily on XSI for all the CGI elements, for a Scottish charity called Seamab that run a specialised school. Seamab is a specialised residential resource supporting children and young people who have not managed to maintain a place within a mainstream...

Re: how to bake ray lenght

I thought ICE was introduced in XSi 7? You should have it in 2010. What happens when you press Alt-9 in SI? I'm not sure all the ICE nodes available in 2010, but as I described above ICE can calculate the distance from each vertex in a mesh to a specified point. ICE can also convert that data into c...

Re: how to bake ray lenght

Ah OK. Initially I thought this was a node you were working with in ICE, rather than the render tree. I thought you were trying to push scalar data from an ICE tree and bake it into a texture on an object. So I know how I would approach this in ICE. The process would be converting scalar information...
