Re: Resurrecting Softimage From Scratch
You should take into account that software is not something that can be made in vacuum by handful of devs working in a basement. It's a product of constant feedback from users, improvement and research. You cannot expect devs to come out after a couple of years and deliver you a finished product. So...

Arnold AOV's
Hello, I'm trying to make Albedo AOV in Arnold but not sure how to approach it. I know alSurface has dedicated AOV for that but what about Standard material?

Re: Arnold for Cinema 4D Released
It's amusing that they always showcase arnold in simple exterior scenes with directly lit objects which are piece of cake for any raytracer. But than you try it in real scene with a lot of indirect lighting, 8 bounces and glossy everywhere and BAM, arnold just dies...

Re: AD going Subscription only Q1 2016
I can't count on Softimage anymore, since it's eol. Hmm, for me it looks like you change your mind in every post :> And I hate the ribbon, I think it's the stupidest thing Autodesk ever did. It's slows, it occupies half the screen and it lags. Just turn it off and bind those tools which you use fre...

Re: Non-commercial Renderman released...
I've noticed strange issue, by default ipr is set to use -1 cores, which means use everything but one. With this or -2 I have horrible lag when using Maya while ipr is running. Now I've tried setting it to 4 (I have 6 cores) and everything is smooth and fast.

Re: Non-commercial Renderman released...
Ok, played with it yesterday and here are some noob's first impressions... RIS is SLOW! Slower than Arnold. IPR is not as responsive as Arnold's. It does not show lights in DX mode of VP2.0. Also, now I understand why folks at SA did not implement VCM... It's kinda useless unless you need caustics (...

Re: Non-commercial Renderman released...
Renderman 19 for hobbyists/students/personal projects is basically Arnold for free, how it can be dead?Renderman is dead
It has some interesting stuff like VCM and cool Disney PBR shader.
It also looks like better integrated into Maya than Arnold.

Re: Arnold for Cinema4D
I guess there is no point buying less than 5 licenses anyway if you render animation and if you are rendering stills there is no point in buying Arnold :>

Re: Maya LT 2016
GI in UE4 is not realtime, it's some crude FG/Photon mapping that can take 3–40+ hours to bake for serious scene and still produces some nasty artifacts.
LPV is wip only.

Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
Funny thing that not so long time ago Vray was considered as a simple „push button” renderer. Currently this place is occupied by Arnold/Corona/Octane while Vray is „harder to learn renderer that requires a lot of tweaking” and Mental Ray is not considered at all :>

Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
Mental ray is faster than vray too, if that matters to anyone. Vray is great for NOOBS who don't really understand ray-tracing, GI and the rendering process. It's one of those apps that you can have zero talent and produce photo-realistic images by just pressing "render"... You should ema...

Re: How long will softimage be Competative...?
That applies to most DCC packages...Mental ray is dead. so you have to rely on outside render engines
