Re: Retargetting Animation from Disoriented Rig
Bah, MOTOR isn't working. The orientation of this rig is killing me, to make it line up with my rig it needs to be rotated 90 on X, scaled -1 on Z to mirror it properly. Also, the bones on the source rig are rotated locally in a different way than mine. Those things make any retargeting in Max or So...

Re: Retargetting Animation from Disoriented Rig
I am making some progress. I have the rig scaled and oriented correctly in Max--the only way I got it to preserve the animations is by parenting the source rig to a new master null and transforming that. Unfortunately, freezing any transforms on the root in Max screws up the entire animation. Transf...

Re: Retargetting Animation from Disoriented Rig
Thanks for the reply. So, I tried some tests and I am struggling to even get these animations out of Max. I am using FBX, which, as a modeler, I hate with a passion. OBJ has always been my go-to format since it doesn't mess with my stuff. On export from Max I say the target scene units are centimete...

Retargetting Animation from Disoriented Rig
Well I am strictly a modeler in Softimage, and I have been given the task of taking a series of hundreds of animations out of 3DS Max and into Softimage on a fairly different rig. I am the only one on the team who can do it, and I am having some trouble wrapping my brain around it--remember I am not...

Re: Softimage - Modo Experience / How are you doing so far?
For myself, what makes Softimage so great for modeling is how solid the tools are--they actually work, and work well. Mostly, I use the extrude tool, add/split edge tools, add polygon tool, weld point tool, and a few others. I'm sure modo has equivalent tools, but how fluid are they to use and do th...

Re: Softimage - Modo Experience / How are you doing so far?
How is polygon modeling in modo compared to Softimage? Softimage is still the best polygon modeler out there, and I cannot find an alternative.

Best Version of Softimage?
I have been using Softimage 2015 SP1 for awhile now, and to me it feels less stable and slower than older builds (2012 and older). I am curious what version the people of this community find to be the best? By best I mean most stable and with the highest performance.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Softimage 2014
This is a great article I was forwarded in an email: http://www.maxunderground.com/archives/18605_autodesk_to_tap_merchandising_market_with_3d_toy_primitves.html Autodesk is failing with their software updates, so now they are looking to make toys. If that is not pathetic enough, you will not believ...

Re: offical features for softimage 2014 & we have a NEW logo
Daniel,
I personally use Softimage for game development, mostly for the UDK. I am not going to ask for specific features, but please pass this along to Autodesk:
"Listen to your customers."

Re: offical features for softimage 2014 & we have a NEW logo
The big yellow M is none other than the golden arches. McDonalds. The only big yellow M in my life... Anyway, Blender is starting to look really nice now; they really have come a long way with that software. Its interface looks nicer than anything Autodesk ever put out, and it appears to be on par f...

Re: offical features for softimage 2014 & we have a NEW logo
This is just laughable: http://www.autodesk.com/products/autodesk-softimage/compare It gives a nice visual representation of how little has changed in the last few releases. I do not hate Autodesk, but I am not happy with their current strategy. I think they made a big mistake acquiring all the comp...

Re: Referenced Models Using Common MatLib?
Well thanks for the reply. It is a shame, but I can manage as it is; it just really clutters the material library with pointers to the same material.

Referenced Models Using Common MatLib?
Good day, I have a quick question. I have a series of referenced models that share many common materials, but upon importing the models they each get their own locked library. This occurs even though they all refer to the same referenced material library, and it quickly makes for a very messy scene....

Floating Viewport?
Good day, quick question: is it possible to tear off a viewport in Softimage? It would make an awesome addition to a relational view I have setup.
Thank you.
Thank you.

What does metro bring that the existing desktop did not already have? I fail to see how one gains any power by using metro.Falam wrote:The power in Metro UI and Desktop UI is using Metro apps and Desktop app simultaneously, try it.
